WELLINGTON, June 18 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck New Zealand North Island's resort city of Rotoua on Thursday, the GNS Sciences said.
The quake occurred at 05:57 a.m. New Zealand local time (17:57 GMT Wednesday), the New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences reported.
The quake's epicenter was located within 5 km of Rotorua at a depth of 170 km. There were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
