Would you work for free?

<<  1    2    3  >>

Topic started on 17-6-2009 @ 04:56 AM by Scooby Doo

After reading about British Airways asking employees to work without pay, it made me wonder if anyone here at ATS would work their everyday job for free.

At this time in my life, I would probably not work for free. Maybe for a small job or charitable job, then I would definitely volunteer.

What do you think, would you work for free?

- Also, if you were an employer, would you ever ask your employees to work for free?

How would you get money to live to actually do the Job?
Food shelter clothing etc.
It wouldn't work.

It depends on how marketable I thought I was. Currently, if I was faced with the option of working for free for a month or quitting, I would probably have to keep working. In this economy there isn't a great chance of just picking up another job once you are out the door.

It would take some serious soul searching, that is for sure.

you already work for free

So in short yes.. long as i had no bills and i got a reward at the end of the year kinda like a thank you gift...

; )

Harder you work better gifts you get lol

oh wait sounds like money !! hehehe

People would work for free aka Be slaves if the right er value was put upon what they needed.

what if you did not want to work?

That is the problem !

What? Work for free? Not even a slave (technically) works for free. Work for free, so some rich banker or investor can make a buck off you? What? Work for free? Not bloody likely. The very idea is repulsive. Most people already work for free for many months of the year (taxes! cough cough, TAXES!). They squeeze and squeeze, and the sheople continue to roll over and take it. Man, have they (the PTB) got a strangle hold around some of your necks.

(extreme sarcasm: ) "Roll over, humons, roll over. Now, sit pretty. Good, good humons. Okay, speak, humon, speak. Ah, that's a nice humon, nice humon. Okay, humons, one more trick now and you can have another bone ... Now, worship me, worship me, obey my every command, beg like a humon, beg like a humon. Ah, nice little humons, sweet little humons. Now, lick your butt, come on humons, lick your butts. Now, jump through a hoop, come on, show me what you'll do for your next bone. Come on humons, show me, show me."

Anyhow . . I like this idea of crashing the economy to fix the ecology. It might even help to alleviate over-population too. Yippee! CRASH! Hey, I'd also pay to see hypocrites sneaking over the border into Canada to become illegal aliens (lol).

I would work for free toward automating the provision of free food, clothing and shelter.

Once we set up automation where machines do the dirty work and replicate themselves, we would all be free to pursue whatever we love.

Work would cease, money would obsolete.

If they abolished money ( like they had a chance to do with all the trillions of bailout cash to failing ***ing useless companies) then yes I would work for free, but then if they abolished money I'd be out of a job straight away as I work for a bank .

As for working for free whilst money still exists , in my current role I'd have to say NO because I don't want some fatcat bast*** getting rich or even paid if I am having to work for nothing, the bosses and politicians should lead by example, but they won't work for free anyway, as they'd probably still claim 'expenses'.

In the current, real world - all the basic needs (food, shelter, security, health) cost money. And lots of it.

But if this were 2250 and this was Starfleet, sure, I'd work for free

I would not do a normal job for free.

Only job I would do for free is on a farm where food and board were provided.

Well, the place I work for WISHES I would work for free, but I have more self respect than that!

Seriously, I would not work for free for anyone but myself. Never for someone else.

And what kind of idiot company would ask their employees to work for free? Everyone knows....

....you get what you pay for!

One of the first lessons I tried to teach my trainees was, never work off the clock. One you dont work for free, and two, working for free is a liability and lawsuit waiting to happen.

So far not one person has said that they would work for free. I think everyone is either being a tad bit idealistic or they didn't read the question.

If you were an employee of British Airways right now, would you work for free this month? If you do one month for free, you keep your job. If you don't, you are unemployed. In this market, do you think that the average airline worker could find comparable pay in the job market? Do you think that they could simply work at another airline? British airways knows that their employees can't simply seek employment elsewhere or they wouldn't even be offering this.

I think it is a legitimate question.

Does making porn movies count as working ? ... I could see a lot of guys swaying towards that kind of vocation without pay...

no but seriously... I'd only work for free if I was a subsistence farmer, hell I dont even like working for money, I'd never do this crap for free, that would be like going to the dentist to get a healthy tooth removed and paying for it...

Well... thats a crappy company dude - the place I'm currently employed at gives us 1 week in 4 off - no pay, they save cash and we get unpaid leave. Some people are on 4 month sabbaticals and getting about 40% of their salary during that period but it's spread over 6 months so you dont get hit too hard.

Correction - the people on 4 month sabbaticals get the salary cut spread over 12 months actually... But they're free to work at another firm/company during that sabbatical.

I think it depends on whether the free work you provide also comes with security for you and your family.

If my bills were covered, my kids were happy and healthy, and i was doing a job that i loved.....yes i'd consider working for free.

The doing a job i love bit is not hard, anyone can make that happen if they want to. Getting guarunteed security for your family is another issue.

I think most are missing the point of working for free here

Its about what society you wish to live in

Money is always and has been about control and greed... many are saying OH them nasty people in charge will have all the money and we wont..

No.. this is not the case we are talking about respect and doing what you love to do to help others for FREE working, having no bills just going to work you have all you want.

Food, House, And you can request things you think you want.. and lets face it we could all have we want on this planet .. its stupid to think other wise

But this is the problem GREED .. some people want it ALL

some people are happy to just be who they are..

this is part of the problem HUMANS are the problem

We blame everything on the system, sorry to burst your bubble

WE ARE THE SYSTEM... until humans change the system will be the same or even worst.. depending on how this race thinks as one being and WE DO..

Feel that wind? that is the human race blowing on your face

This is true...

allow me to quote a excerpt from a tool song:

Angels on the sideline,
Puzzled and amused.
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused.

Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys,
Where there's one you're bound to divide it.
Right in two.

OOOPS.

No I would quit that job before I work for free. Unfortunately not everyone else will, and thus begins the slow descent into indentured
servitude or something. What a slap in the face to the employees!! I think that situation is evil and wrong.

I do not like to do quotes but i find this fitting..

I am my brothers keeper

until people understand the best way to kill of this cancer we call greed we have to respect each other and give more

why take? why not share? why not all have the same? why not work as a race and not as individuals?

it scares some people at the concept of being the same as others..

and this will be our collective downfall

Lack of respect .. for you me and the very nature of being here

I mean i find it very puzzling to see humans then i look at ants.. and i wonder What on earth is going on here

something is not right... something very very strange

the human race is confused and unsettled and scared...

understand something... YOU WAS CREATED TO LIVE NOT BE THE REASON FOR YOUR OWN DESTRUCTION

wake up be for its to late...

and to cheer some up and make others wake up here is a nice song

When obama and the NWO have their way - we pretty much will be.

We will all be paying HUGE taxes to the nanny-state.
We will all be paying HUGE taxes to the UN for 'wealth redistribution'.

We will all be slaves to the state soon. It's coming.

And you will have no choice.
