Obama tells AMA 'America may go the way of GM'
www.cnn.com
CNN) -- President Obama told the American Medical Association on Monday that rising health care costs could force the United States to follow
in the footsteps of a bankrupt automaker.
"If we do not fix our health care system, America may go the way of GM -- paying more, getting less and going broke," Obama told the AMA's 158th
annual meeting.
The AMA agrees with Obama on the need for health care reforms but has reservations about the creation of a "public option" paid for by the government
to ensure coverage for the 46 million uninsured Americans.

These remarks on the part of President Obama border on treason and America might be well served to question the man who made them at great length as
to his ability and desire to keep America from going the way of General Motors.
Here we have yet again as in the Bailouts, a Washington and an Administration either bullying or terrorizing the public or business alternatively to
bring even more things under the inefficient and corrupt control of the Government yoke.
This is an absurd way for the President of the United States to talk and behave the solution to a budget crisis in Washington is to spot spending, not
look for more ways to spend in a ‘fixed’ pricing and ‘fixed’ services smorgasbord offered up be a government that seems intent on controlling
every aspect of what was once free American life.
This is becoming criminal and dangerous now and this is not the kind of ‘change’ I think any self respecting American wants to see.
I for one do not need, want or seek to have the government regulate nor mandate my healthcare or the quality of it that is available to me.

These politics of fear are going too far. We have seen the government now for the better part of a decade but increasingly since October utilize fear
of Bank Holidays and distributions of services and the collapse of the dollar as a means to extort both lawmakers and citizens alike to compliantly go
along with often unconstitutional acts and laws that are propelling us on a quickening pace towards absolute Fascism.
To now threaten the continued viability and existence of the United States itself if entire segments of business and society do not comply with
Presidential wishes is the most reprehensible tactic and the surest sign of gross incompetence and negligence in dispatching the trust that the
American people have placed in this obvious charlatan.
This man is a traitor and is conducting treason!

If you want to blame someone, blame the previous CEO. Mr George Bush.
Obama, after 5 months in the job, is just having to clear up after the chimps' tea party Bush enjoyed for 8 years at taxpayers expense.

If he is incapable of doing the job with out socializing America through a process of fear then he is incapable of doing the job with out socializing
America through a process of fear.
That's pretty basic and has nothing to do with his predecesor.
That's just a tired old excuse for someone clearly not up to the task he claimed to be.

Huh, didn't GM go kaboom because they refused to cater to what consumers demanded and built cars and trucks with little attention to quality?
If America is going to go the way of GM, its going to be because Obama and gang can't keep their hand out of the cookie jar.

I'm sure he kept his audience spell bound.Extolling the virtue of socialized med.to a room full of doctors that would probably earn over $250,000 a
year.Obama's target tax bracket.
I'm pretty sure Obama didn't tarry to long on the point that for his plan to work,Doctors earnings would have to come down. Less money for doctors
service would have to be very popular with doctors.
Also it would seem that the Government would have to seize the patents on alot of pharma. The prices will have to be regulated.I bet Phizer is a big
fan of that.

No GM was doing fine until the Credit Freeze...this is entirely false. Toyota posted a 10.2 billion dollar loss in the first quarter of 2009 as well
because of the Credit Freeze and has had to downsize their sales projections by 1,000,000 units this year as a result.
Toyota and Honda are both struggling out of staying out of bankruptcy too and GM and Ford have 5 of the 10 most popular selling vehicles in America
with Japan, Germany and Korea splitting the other 5.
When a company like General Motors who is the second largest employer in the United States with Wal-Mart being in the lead, and a company that has
more employees than the U.S. Government finds it's revenues off by 58% because purchasers can no longer obtain loans from banks even though the banks
have been given trillions of dollars in taxpayer money to do just that, it's going to cause bankrupting havoc, so to of course will ignorant
consumers who fall for overseas marketing ploys and rhetoric and don't actually study relevant facts in a scientific way on the products manufactured
in their own nation as they contribute to the bankrupting of their own economy by sending their dollars overseas for purchases of items manufactured
and readily available here in the U.S.

The problem is that we cannot afford to waste time on looking back, America, indeed, Americans need to be looking forward and prepare themselves to
make sure that in the future there is sufficient balance of power in the government to prevent extreme policies and agendas from arbitrarily
controlling the nation, economy and people.
In the end, the American people will only have themselves to blame.

This is just more of the march to Facsism or Socialism. Facsist states are merged with corporate entities but the corporate owners maintain a power
heirachy that has sway and influence within the government, Socialist States simply merge with business and control everything on a governmental level
with the businesses being run by ministries whose ministers do not profit off of the revenue of their ministry but simply draw a government salary for
running it.
America is headed for Facsism the way it looks to me.

Many of the people who voted for him did so simply based on his charisma and vague promises that neither they the voters had any desire to require him
to expound upon to make less vague or he had any desire to expound upon to make less vague.
Still as this continued press for an increasingly fascist state continues Americans should not be bound by the bad choice they made in placing such
trust in such a disengenuous and unqualified man.
He should simply be removed from office either through impeachment or other means if he sees the only remedy of letting America fall completely or
making it a completely fascist state.

Barry's healthcare plan has to pass because of a sudden urgency just like the stimulus bill. Obama instilled the fear of disaster into his followers
and even hit the campaign trail to push his stimulus rhetoric. Obama soon revealed the duplicity of his rhetoric and the arrogance of his character
when he took off on a pricey Valentine’s Day vacation in Chicago for the weekend instead of signing the stimulus bill that he said needed to be
passed as soon as possible to avert an irreversible economic meltdown.
Now he wants to destroy our health care industry and many of the jobs associated with it. Keep your eyes on the low hanging fruit in the industry.
If this plan to nationalize health care happens, this low hanging fruit will be the first to go.
I am referring to therapeutic services which are currently covered by insurance and will be the first to go under a new plan. Physical, Occupational,
Speech and Psychological therapies will take the initial hit. The bureaucrats will inevitably save money by deeming the majority of these treatments
as unnecessary.

Sorry but I put plenty of Blame on Bush..
However, It was OBAMA who really got the bailout passed. The General Population was against it and it wasn't until he started promoting the bailout,
and telling us how it would save us back in Oct 08, then it passed.
The bailout was the beginning of the end.

There is a far greater danger to socialized medicine in that while in theory every has access what do they have access too.
People from Canada, France, England, and many other countries that have socialized medicine often travel far and at great personal cost to the United
States of America to see cutting edge specialists that primarily only practice here in the United States because the United States rewards them the
greatest for their skills and knowledge by letting them set the prices for their services and letting them choose who they see.
The overall quality and innovation of medicine degrades when it is socialized and worse still even if you have the money or the means to ensure your
survival through the best of care, such a system is no longer locally and internally available to you.
Worst yet is if the government simply wants you to die for lack of care, they can just deny care to anyone whose reached a certain age, level of
health or political mindset, or physical productivity that makes that individual's continued survival no longer appealing to the state.
America offers the most expensive health care in the world.
America offers the widest range and the best possible health care in the world to those that can afford it.
People with minor accidents and aches and pains will no longer have to foot the bill for their own care.
People with major accidents and complicated situations who can afford to fit the bill will no longer have access to premium care.
The government will have access to what has always been confidential information between you and your physicians and doctors.
The government will further tax the citizen under a heavier and heavier yoke of oppressive taxes to accomplish this.
There is already socialized medicine for the poor and disabled it's called medicare.
There is already a public health trust in each state and county to aide in caring for the indigent.
Charity picks up the tab for some of it, Medical universities who utilize indegent patients to help train future doctors pay for the rest of it and a
small portion is picked up by tax payers.
This is not about giving better quality or more care, this is about government control and power and the deepening economic servitude of the tax
payer.
Businesses not citizens should pay taxes to fund the infrastructure that makes commerce work.
Business should help with the cost of medical care for the workers that enable them to make money.
Once upon a time they did through Unions before businesses who want to always maximize their profits at everyone even the consumer's and nation's
expense led a war on them and the government always intent on growing bigger and more costlier through taxation drove businesses to seek cheaper labor
and materials in foreign markets.
All this does is make the rich richer, and the poor pooer, while most everyone else walks away with less and gets less than every before.

I know what you're saying, Protoplasmic. You Americans MUST stand up and fight for what's right before Obama and his band of communists finish their
coup.
We have socialised medicine in New Zealand, and it really sucks because a prescription only costs like $10 or so but it's not real medicine--it looks
like medicine, but it's really just fluoride in capsule form. So if someone's sick and needs real medicine, they've got to end up paying a whole
lot more money so they can buy a roundtrip plane ticket to the USA and back, and that's a lot more money than it'd be if the communist socialists
didn't take over the healthcare system here to begin with.

That's the scary thing about socialized medicine but this is more than just socialized medicine this government aiding and abetting theft.
If I have been paying for medical insurance for 20 years and never once got sick not that company is off the hook if I ever become sick?
This is government urgently trying to cover the fact that insurance companies have lost the bulk of the money entrusted to them on the stock
market!
They get to walk away from thier malfeasance unscathed, I get to pick up the price of their excesses and poor planning.
Americans need to wake up our Government never ever truly does anything in the citizens interest just in it's own interest and it's corporate
Masters.

This really ticks me off! (And this is coming from an uninsured person)
I hate the idea of our government sinking it's teeth into yet another portion of my life that they have no business being in. Not to mention the fact
that every time our government decides to take control of something, they seem to foobar it so horribly that all that is left is a mess of red tape
and our tax dollars disappearing into oblivion.
Sorry, but I would much rather pay off massive debt debt for the rest of my life if it means I get top notch treatment, because hey, at least I'll be
alive to piss and moan about the bill.
It's much better than the prospect of socialized health care that will likely just let me die because they deem me unworthy for some reason.

I couldn't agree with you more!
I have been insured at times and uninsured at times.
For the most part there is no net gain in having insurance between the premiums and the detuctables you are for the most part gambing that you will
have a catostrophic illness one day and further than the insurance will in fact cover it if you do.
Whether insured or not I manage to pay for a doctor's visit when I really need to visit a doctor.
Medicare and Medicaid is riddled with fraud as it is, and that's a lot of what drives up the health costs of government.
Government could cut spending in other areas like 10 million here to study a minnow that lives underneath the hoover dam and 25 million there for a
bridge to nowhere to balance out the books but the patronage the politicians earns in awarding such frivolous things makes that undesirable to them.
It's another sad day for democracy.
