Iran supreme leader orders probe of election fraud

news.yahoo.com

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran's supreme leader ordered Monday an investigation into allegations of election fraud, marking a stunning turnaround by the country's most powerful figure and offering hope to opposition forces who have waged street clashes to protest the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

State television quoted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei directing a high-level clerical panel, the Guardian Council, to look into charges by pro-reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, who has said he is the rightful winner of Friday's presidential election.

No matter where you go int he world, politics are politics.

Its not all that surprising that they would do this. The discontent is growing by the minute and the clerics that really run the country must understand that this was the same discontent that ousted the Shah so many years ago.

I suspect that this is simply a stall tactic to buy time to allow people to simmer down as protests like this have a way of feeding themselves.

Kangaroo court to investigate an election of a powerless puppet?

Iran already has a supreme leader that is not elected, the Ayatollahs run the country. The Iranian presidency is a powerless position, and literally it is irrelevant who won this election or whether their was fraud or not.

It is all meant to assuage the people of Iran and relieve frustrations.

Democracy in Iran when it comes to the actual leadership of the nation is an illusion.

The Israelis and much of the war making world want the west to believe in the power of the Iranian presidency particularly when a radical like Ahmadinejad is in that position... When in reality he is simply a mouthpiece for the Ayatollah (Supreme Leader).
