'Palestinian state must be demilitarized, recognize Israel'

In his long-awaited foreign policy speech set to be delivered Sunday evening at Bar-Ilan University, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will call for the establishment of a demilitarized Palestinian state to exist alongside Israel, sources in the prime minister's office said on Sunday evening.

Will it be possible for a "demilitarized" Palestinian nation to exist? I really don't think so. The leaders of the Palestinians don't really care for Israel too much and often see things that Israel does as a threat to Palestinians. Due to this, how would they just let things slide, they'd want to protect themselves.

Based on the article, this is going to be the bulk of Netanyahu's speech tonight. No hint of the outpost issue at all. This is interesting as well because, at least here in Germany, this speech was billed as one that would give a definitive solution/proposal to that issue.

In the end, though, the Palestinians want a land to call their own. It appears that Israel is willing to concede that and give it to them. It will be interesting to see how the Palestinians respond to this--giving a "counter offer" or if they'll just reject it, like they've done before because they're not willing to compromise with the Israeli state.

Won't happen.

The leadership of the so-called 'palestinians' won't let it happen. Peace would put them out of business. They need the sympathy factor in order to keep getting all that international aid. They need to be at war in order to keep their power.

Peace would mean they were out of a job.

If Palestine was 'demilitarized' Israel would invade the country so fast it would make people's heads spin.

I'm pretty sure that Palestinians have already been forced to recognize Israel as a state, as Israel seems to get a little bigger each year. Missiles and machine gun fire have a way of drawing your attention.

It's funny you say that considering Israel has a nuclear arsenal.

The Western world has justified Israel's nuclear arsenal as a means of "self-defense", but the Palestinians aren't allowed to have a military.

I think that would work...if ISRAEL would agree to be demilitarized TOO.
