LONDON (June 12) - An ancient burial pit containing 45 severed skulls, which could be a mass war grave dating back to Roman times, has been found under a road being built for the 2012 British Olympics.
Dig leader David Score, of Oxford Archaeology said archaeologists are "trying to piece together the extraordinary story behind these remains." They've only just begun excavating the site.

what could this mean, what happend, what's your thoughts?
Is it possible that this was some kind of mass sacrifice or an outbreak of disease that we haven't known about, could there be more mass graves near by yet to be discoverd, if it was an outbreak of disease though, why sever the heads it just wouldn't make much sense but then again ancient people had strange ways of dealing with things, or is it like the story says "casulties of war" would really love to hear some theories from other people.

Probably war "prisoners" that were executed, I saw once a documentary where they said that it was common for people to cut the heads of the prisoners made during a battle, but I don't remember where was the place of the documentary, it could be a different place with different ways of doing things.

But an interesting find.
