Iranians have been streaming to polling stations in a hotly contested general election between President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and former prime minister and moderate, Mirhossein Mousavi

Long queues formed at voting centres and the interior ministry said it expected a turnout of more than 70 per cent, approaching the record of nearly 80 per cent when reformist Mohammad Khatami swept the 1997 presidential election.

80% population turnout to vote

and unlike some on here want you to believe - its not ` a done deal` as in Iran`s constiution is the right to vote - and whilst the supreme leader is the religous head , the president does have power , and can do things his own way.

80 % turnout

any wesstern country would lvoe that sort of figure - and again i can hear the cries of ` they will be brutalised if they dont vote` well no they wont , theres quite a bit of freedom in iran - just not the same `freedom` as the USA - but there things in the USA that will get the fbi kicking down your door , which are fine in iran.
