The Flood and the Moon

Many ancient cultures around the world we carry records from, like the Egyptian and Sumerian to the Mayan and of course the Biblical traditions; they all tell of old tales and myths involving a world wide flood of some sort. Is this just a mere coincidence, or is this evidence that at least once in the history of Man, a gigantic tidal flood washed over the Earth destroying most of it's land creatures? And how could this happen? Perhaps Genesis itself gives us a clue a few pages earlier, in the first chapter, verse 16, when God creates the Sun and the Moon. A literal translation goes something like this:

«And God created the two great luminaries, the great luminary to rule the day,
and the small luminary to rule the night, and the stars.»

The Hebrew text clearly states that when God created the Sun and the Moon they appeared different in size. One may argue that the Moon is infact a lot smaller than the Sun, but the guys who wrote the stories recorded in Genesis and Gilamesh, had no understanding of this, atleast to our knowledge. As far as their world view would have it back then, the Sun and the Moon would have appeared to be the same size, had the ratio been like it is today. Sometimes the face of the Moon is even a click bigger than the Sun disk, but -- strangely enough -- they appear to be the same size today. Does Genesis infact say that some thousand years ago, the Moon was further away from the Earth than it is today? Far enough to appear conciderably smaller than the Sun in the sky?

Now, unless you are unaware of the natural phenomenon called tides, you would naturally know about the obvious gravitational pull from the Moon, and it's effect on the oceans here on Earth, as the sea level rise and fall during the 24hr day and especially at certain full Moons, over roughly a century when a "century wave" marks the transition into a new cyclus. And if the Moon has a stable pull and effect like that when in an almost unchanged appearance in the sky, what would then happen if the Moon had suddenly been struck by something, be it something like a comet or for that matter God poking it with his left index finger -- what if it had suddenly come conciderably closer to the Earth before it stabilised in it's current trajectory... I'll help you along if you care to take my word for it; it would have had a potentially cataclysmic effect on life on Earth. No doubt. And indeed it seems something like that may have happened, not too long ago, given all the different accounts passed on to us, from generation to generation for thousands of years. First "the Moon was smaller than the Sun", then there came a giant Flood, and then "the Moon is as big as the Sun". Whether you choose to believe the stories or not, there is an obvious connection here.

Edit: align=center doesn't seem to work when regular quotes are used, I had to use hooks...

The adjective Katan which discribes the Moon in Genesis 1:16, has the following meanings: small, insignificant, young or unimportant. In the KJV it is referanced 101 times with the words and instances as below:

small 33, little 19, youngest 15, younger 14, least 10, less 3, lesser 2, little one 2, smallest 1, small things 1, young 1

In Google! Earth, plot the following:
Latitude: 39°26'26.26"N
Longitude: 44°14'4.26"E

In A NG issue from 2004, the fallowing could be read:

The Bible states that Noah landed in the region of the ancient kingdom Urartu. Mount Ararat (its name probably a corrupted version of Urartu) has been the focus of those seeking the ark because it—at 17,000 feet (5,165 meters)—is the highest point in the area.
[...]
Known to locals as Agri Dagi—Turkish for "mountain of pain"— Ararat is not easy to access. Located in eastern Turkey—close to the borders of Armenia and Iran, and only 150 miles (240 kilometers) from Iraq—the region is politically volatile and often dangerous. Much of the region is part of a military zone, and getting permission to explore it is extremely difficult.

And following the link below you can see pictures and maps etc. showing how this strange rock formation may indeed be the fossil remnants of the elusive Ark of Noah that saved life on Earth some millennia ago:

There are traces of metal in systematical patterns along the whole structure, and it fit's the ratio of the Bible being 6:1 or 300 by 50 cubits. The same ratio is used in modern tankers and big ships, and has shown to be the best ratio for a great ship etc. etc. Check it out...
