WAR: Queen's Lancashire Regiment Troops Vow to Catch Iraq 'Torturers'

Soldiers of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment, whose name has been brought into disrepute by the Iraqui torture photographs, plan to seek out those responsible and bring them to justice - the Army way.

The photographs, which included one of a British soldier urinating onto a hooded and bound Iraqui prisoner, have brought outrage from Amnesty international and an internal investigation from the Royal Military Police.

FURIOUS troops in the regiment at the centre of the Iraqi torture pictures vowed last night to hunt down the soldiers responsible.

"When we catch these scum they will regret the day they decided to betray everything the Army has taught them," one said. "They have soiled the good name of our country and our regiment. These people are nothing but weak, bullying, cowardly scum. Let us at 'em."

Its good to see decent members of the military standing up for the rights of prisoners of war. There is nothing more infuriating than for a few sick individuals to tarnish the good name of a regiment. I daresay that those responsible will be more concerned about their collegues reactions than those of Amnesty and the Redcaps.

The Observer - Six British soldiers may be arrested over abuse claims
Soldiers from the Queen's Lancashire Regiment are understood to have been questioned in Cyprus after the publication yesterday of shocking photographs purporting to show a prisoner being beaten, kicked and urinated on while in the regiment's custody.

Legal experts warned last night that British soldiers could face war crimes trials if the allegations are proven, or if they are not exhaustively investigated.

General Sir Michael Jackson, the army's highest-ranking officer, called the alleged incidents 'shameful'. They are still being investigated by the Royal Military Police - which must first ascertain that the photographs are genuine, not carefully staged fakes. Last night the Ministry of Defence described as 'speculation' claims of imminent arrests.

If true, the allegations could mean serious criminal consequences for Britain, which, unlike the United States, has signed up to the new International Criminal Court. It has the power to launch war crimes charges of its own against authorities including the commander-in-chief - the Prime Minister - if necessary.

If of course true, it won't me the "army way," but all the way, for the britons the way it looks now. The Americans have clearly less to fear than the English.
Wouldn't this be a great moment for the U.S. to sign up to the new International Criminal Court, as of proof of integrity..?
Why do I have the feeling that they never will..
