Making a mountain out of a mole hill. Absurd this is becoming political.

I can't stand anyone who sides for a specific American political party whether it be Republican or Democrat, Left or Right...

I would be defending Letterman no matter who's family the joke was targeted towards.

The fact is we don't know if Letterman was referring to Bristol or Willow and he never referenced a name. There is no indication he is lying.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that the producers and writers of the TV show are smart enough to realize that making jokes about underage teens (especially those of politicians) brings about a lot of heat. That is why they try to avoid doing such things. Bristol has been in the spotlight recently, and they probably read some blurbs they had printed out when writing jokes, and assumed it was Bristol at the game.

Big deal!!

Being filled with hate is no way to go through life. I don't recall many if any attacks on Clinton's Daughter. If they did, they were just as wrong as Letterman.

I'll bow out here. Letterman is not even an important person anyway. Only to adolescent Celebrity Groupies anyway.

I am not defending the man.. I am saying the flak should be directed at the person who wrote it. I just know how the industry works, I am in it.

Sooooo.

Using your very own logic, no one should be calling Bush a liar on Iraqi WMD's because he was relying on material prepared for him by others (his intelligence team) that he simply did not check out thoroughly, himself? The "flak" should instead be directed at the intelligence agencies?

You really don't get to have it both ways.

Is this really a 6 page thread?????

I have seen this over on the sidebar but really could care less about Sarah Whiner! I just saw the so called horrible joke and OMG, are you kidding me...really????

Sarah just is looking for another way to keep her stupid arse in front of the camera. She is a public figure though a laughable one, I wonder if her witch doctor friend is going to put a whammie on Dave

My god people, it is comedy, a joke. This kid has a baby, is all over the news, the Palins are denying the father visitation according to him, and he was on Tyra for god's sake.

Just like the Obama's made a stupid stink about the cute dolls, this too is dumb. Part of the price that is paid for celebrity. The man was kidding, joking, comedy. He didn't say a thing about her getting raped.

Considering all the talk that goes on here about every topic, I have to say how shocked I am that this is getting so much steam here.

Sarah and her hillbilly husband should go hunt some moose, make some stew and then go and have a fun round of murdering wolves.

It's okay, we all make assumptions sometimes, don't we? Especially on the internet.

Like I said in my first statement in this thread Bristol put herself out there, she became a spokesperson for "Vow Not Now" and was on nationally syndicated shows. She was on the cover of a magazine after she graduated from high school and did a lengthy interview. She put herself into the public eye knowing people only paid attention to her because she was Palin's daughter. When you put yourself out there you are bound to get flack. The joke was tasteless, but you can't pick and choose what kind of media attention you want, that's just not realistic.

Ironically, this thread is funnier then Dave's joke ever was.
Sadly, it's meant to be serious. Get over it people....this constant arguing over minutia is ridiculous. Dave told a joke about whom he thought( actually his writers) was Bristol ( to me they actually could be twins)...it fell flat. Tonite he'll tell some jokes, some will also fall flat again. People see the wag the dog, but just can't resist looking in the wrong direction anyway. Looky looky ....shinny object over here, while the dull object is over there doing the real damage.

And for those calling "the kids are off limits", I completely agree. But Bristol is an adult who made the decision to step into the limelight by doing the rounds on a variety of morning shows and talk shows about the issue that is EXACTLY what this joke was referencing.

Anywho.....I'm going to go start a thread that Obama might take his wife to a movie and pizza ( I have inside info from a friend). Or better yet Bush is apparently adding a new room onto his home in Crawford....how dare he in this economy. Clinton was spotted at a fastfood restaurant the other day.....and he has that eat healthy thing goin for kids OMG!!!!! That will make 10 pages at least

Really..... 6 pages ( and counting) over a completely non issue....they seem to be popping up alot on the board.

Sure, if you want to compare a comedic show to government proceedings.. go right ahead.

That analogy makes little sense. I would expect the leader of the free world to have more fact when opening his mouth than a television host.

You're forgetting one major point... the "joke" was directed towards the 18 y/o daughter not the 14 y/o.

It seems that everyone misses that point.

If the correct daughter this was intended for was at the ball game... this would have been a non-issue.

People, including the ones posting on this thread can't even see this. All they see is 14 year old girl and raping in the same sentence and they won't look past it. I guess some people can't use common sense, nor could they actually thinking before reacting, it just shows their stupidity. I thought this site was all about "Denying Ignorance" but it seems that isn't going to happen here. Talk show hosts make stupid comments, writers write material without much research on their part, and politicians will use any kind of fuel to stay in the spot light.

I highly doubt Sarah Palin is honestly that upset over this, if she is then she is a hypicrite. All the stupid stuff she has said about Obama, then she should apologize herself. And she should apologize to Lettermen for putting him in the same league as a child molester. That won't happen of course. She was a joke during the presidential campaign, John McCain could have chosen a much better running mate, but instead he choose an attractive young female governor to reach out to the soccar moms and general female voting population and males who would want to look at her on tv all the time, that is it. If she can't realize this and really thinks she was chosen because she was a strong candidate, then she really is an idiot. She somehow thinks that she is going to be President someday, well there would have to run opposed if that were to happen.

She's pretty desperate for any kind of publicity if she is jumping on this. I guess next we'll hear Rosie O'Donnel opening her big mouth against David Lettermen, Palin will then go on every single talk show trying from the View, to Conan (won't get used to that, I still had trouble with Leno, it was hard enough to stop saying Johnny Carson) and everywhere else to keep attention to this stupid non issue. All the issues going on in our country and in the world, but Sarah Palin is whining about a lame joke that shouldn't be wasting airwaves.

Why exactly is it ok or funny to make even the 18 year old the butt of a joke? Just because she happens to Sarah Palin's daughter who made a poor decision? I would say the same to any other politicians child, regardless of party. I don't get how this "joking" is acceptable behavior.

I don't mean to make a mountain over this, but again, would you want your 14 or 18 year old subject to such things?

You who are arguing on this thread. Just remember. The same corporatations that own the television station, that broadcast the "Late Show with David Letterman", are the ones that manipulate this government and the people in it.

Compared with amending our government and striving for solutions, this show and these arguments mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. :shk:

Perverted....a female governor that makes women in her state pay for their rape kits!

Oh jeez! Who cares? What happened to freedom of speech? I love the fact that I can call the President a d***** bag......or is that illegal now too?

Oh yea, and I thought it was funny as hell when they were making all the fuss about Perez Hilton calling Miss California a dumb b****. How right he was!

The point is that this country was founded on the principles that we could express our opinions whether people like them or not. All of this political correctness is out of hand already. I will never change my mannerisms because the masses are too wuss to hear it. It's time for people to toughen up a little. Can you imagine how people are going to react when something big happens if they can't even handle a little insult in jest? It's pathetic.

This country is becoming in major need of a diaper change.

If they chose to have those children then they should be paying for them. Sorry but it's true. Now if they were coerced into having those children, it's another story. If you bring something into the world, you are responsible for it. Plain and simple.

And to set the record straight, the Palins were traveling with their 14 year old daughter when Letterman made his "jokes", not the 18 year old. Letterman is now trying to say he meant the older girl as a way to try and duck out from under what he's done. Truly weak and slimy ...

No, Letterman is saying he meant Bristol because he did. Anyone who watched the damn show could tell that. He may have directed the joke at the daughter who was with Palin at the game, but that's because he assumed it was Bristol. The fact that you're spinning it the way you want it to go is the only "weak and slimy" thing going on.

That's because the lefties are still so very afraid of Palin. Any self-made conservative woman scares them to death.

Right. The reason the liberals are worried about Palin is because she's an incompetent, hate and fear mongering simpleton who should never have made it into politics in the first place. Another classic conservative tactic is to try to trivialize their opponents to make themselves look better. What they should be doing is actually working on themselves... you don't win a race by moving the finish line. You win it by crossing it first.

And again, that's just what Letterman is saying now because he doesn't have the cojones to man up and admit he made a mistake.

He's apologized for the mistake he made. The mistake you think he made is the thing that doesn't exist.

It's threads like these that really turn me off this place. The blatant, willful ignorance flying around in here under disguise as righteousness is just appalling. If any of you could step outside yourselves and just hear how fake you sound... it's almost too embarrassing to watch.

I watched it and it was not convincing. The 14 year old was the only one with Palin. His jokes were about the Daughter that was with her at the game.

Yes, he made the joke about the daughter who was with Palin. Except he assumed that daughter was Bristol, not Willow, which is the only thing he's guilty of, and he's come clean on that.

The problem that I have with threads like this is that Letterman, and the joke writer, never said, in the joke, which daughter it was supposed to be about. I thought it was a lame joke, and it didn't even receive a sigh from me.

I'm one that thinks that kids, regardless of who they belong to, should be off-limits. At the same time though, when the parents, especially the mother, basically parade the children around as a part of a political campaign, and then use a daughter's pregnancy and their special needs son as talking points for said campaign, then I think that the children are fair game. I don't agree with it, but don't complain about people making stupid jokes about your children when you just spent several months with them going nearly everywhere with you.

And before someone flames me, I would say the same thing for the Obamas if they had had their daughters EVERYWHERE on the campaign trail.

Logically, it is the exact same thought process. The only difference is whether it fits your point of view or not. If you agree to one, but not the other, then you also admit to being hypocritical.

If I drug them around on a campaign and paraded them in front of TV cameras to try and gain political points; I would expect it.

What a bunch of crybabys!

Good for you. What you get out of the First Amendment is the right to say caca-poopoo. To me, there's much more than that.

Common decency is what's missing with Letterman. The excuse that he "didn't know" that Willow was at the game is BS and just his way of wiggling out of his trash mouth. He is nothing more than a 62 year old pervert that probably needs a bottle of Viagra before he can attempt to rape any of his fetishes.
