Being filled with hate is no way to go through life. I don't recall many if any attacks on Clinton's Daughter. If they did, they were just as wrong as Letterman.

I'll bow out here. Letterman is not even an important person anyway. Only to adolescent Celebrity Groupies anyway.

I am not defending the man.. I am saying the flak should be directed at the person who wrote it. I just know how the industry works, I am in it.

Sooooo.

Using your very own logic, no one should be calling Bush a liar on Iraqi WMD's because he was relying on material prepared for him by others (his intelligence team) that he simply did not check out thoroughly, himself? The "flak" should instead be directed at the intelligence agencies?

You really don't get to have it both ways.

It's okay, we all make assumptions sometimes, don't we? Especially on the internet.

Like I said in my first statement in this thread Bristol put herself out there, she became a spokesperson for "Vow Not Now" and was on nationally syndicated shows. She was on the cover of a magazine after she graduated from high school and did a lengthy interview. She put herself into the public eye knowing people only paid attention to her because she was Palin's daughter. When you put yourself out there you are bound to get flack. The joke was tasteless, but you can't pick and choose what kind of media attention you want, that's just not realistic.

Sure, if you want to compare a comedic show to government proceedings.. go right ahead.

That analogy makes little sense. I would expect the leader of the free world to have more fact when opening his mouth than a television host.

You're forgetting one major point... the "joke" was directed towards the 18 y/o daughter not the 14 y/o.

It seems that everyone misses that point.

If the correct daughter this was intended for was at the ball game... this would have been a non-issue.

People, including the ones posting on this thread can't even see this. All they see is 14 year old girl and raping in the same sentence and they won't look past it. I guess some people can't use common sense, nor could they actually thinking before reacting, it just shows their stupidity. I thought this site was all about "Denying Ignorance" but it seems that isn't going to happen here. Talk show hosts make stupid comments, writers write material without much research on their part, and politicians will use any kind of fuel to stay in the spot light.

I highly doubt Sarah Palin is honestly that upset over this, if she is then she is a hypicrite. All the stupid stuff she has said about Obama, then she should apologize herself. And she should apologize to Lettermen for putting him in the same league as a child molester. That won't happen of course. She was a joke during the presidential campaign, John McCain could have chosen a much better running mate, but instead he choose an attractive young female governor to reach out to the soccar moms and general female voting population and males who would want to look at her on tv all the time, that is it. If she can't realize this and really thinks she was chosen because she was a strong candidate, then she really is an idiot. She somehow thinks that she is going to be President someday, well there would have to run opposed if that were to happen.

She's pretty desperate for any kind of publicity if she is jumping on this. I guess next we'll hear Rosie O'Donnel opening her big mouth against David Lettermen, Palin will then go on every single talk show trying from the View, to Conan (won't get used to that, I still had trouble with Leno, it was hard enough to stop saying Johnny Carson) and everywhere else to keep attention to this stupid non issue. All the issues going on in our country and in the world, but Sarah Palin is whining about a lame joke that shouldn't be wasting airwaves.

Why exactly is it ok or funny to make even the 18 year old the butt of a joke? Just because she happens to Sarah Palin's daughter who made a poor decision? I would say the same to any other politicians child, regardless of party. I don't get how this "joking" is acceptable behavior.

I don't mean to make a mountain over this, but again, would you want your 14 or 18 year old subject to such things?

Oh jeez! Who cares? What happened to freedom of speech? I love the fact that I can call the President a d***** bag......or is that illegal now too?

Oh yea, and I thought it was funny as hell when they were making all the fuss about Perez Hilton calling Miss California a dumb b****. How right he was!

The point is that this country was founded on the principles that we could express our opinions whether people like them or not. All of this political correctness is out of hand already. I will never change my mannerisms because the masses are too wuss to hear it. It's time for people to toughen up a little. Can you imagine how people are going to react when something big happens if they can't even handle a little insult in jest? It's pathetic.

This country is becoming in major need of a diaper change.

If they chose to have those children then they should be paying for them. Sorry but it's true. Now if they were coerced into having those children, it's another story. If you bring something into the world, you are responsible for it. Plain and simple.

And to set the record straight, the Palins were traveling with their 14 year old daughter when Letterman made his "jokes", not the 18 year old. Letterman is now trying to say he meant the older girl as a way to try and duck out from under what he's done. Truly weak and slimy ...

No, Letterman is saying he meant Bristol because he did. Anyone who watched the damn show could tell that. He may have directed the joke at the daughter who was with Palin at the game, but that's because he assumed it was Bristol. The fact that you're spinning it the way you want it to go is the only "weak and slimy" thing going on.

That's because the lefties are still so very afraid of Palin. Any self-made conservative woman scares them to death.

Right. The reason the liberals are worried about Palin is because she's an incompetent, hate and fear mongering simpleton who should never have made it into politics in the first place. Another classic conservative tactic is to try to trivialize their opponents to make themselves look better. What they should be doing is actually working on themselves... you don't win a race by moving the finish line. You win it by crossing it first.

And again, that's just what Letterman is saying now because he doesn't have the cojones to man up and admit he made a mistake.

He's apologized for the mistake he made. The mistake you think he made is the thing that doesn't exist.

It's threads like these that really turn me off this place. The blatant, willful ignorance flying around in here under disguise as righteousness is just appalling. If any of you could step outside yourselves and just hear how fake you sound... it's almost too embarrassing to watch.
