They don't write the jokes.

They interpret a script to make it look 'live'

By all means get offended.

But, if it bothers you that much, stop watching.
And if it still bothers you.... be creative.

They hated her becaue she was not some brainwashed elitist. She was a well educated, plain spoken mother with a special needs child. She is attractive, without trying to be sexy or slutt. Basically she's the mom next door, who has conservative values, believes in fiscal responisbility, and does her job to the best of her ability.
I also believe the extreme left hated her because of Christian beleifs. And her daughter is not the first to be raised in a loving Christian home and get pregnant. It happens.

Really? Do you honestly believe that Sarah Palin was a right fit for federal government? Sure, she may run Alaska well, whatever. But the country? This is the person who was fooled by two talk show radio hosts from quebec that she was talking to the French Prime Minister.

The woman who said that she had more foreign policy experience than Obama, cause she could see Russia from her backyard?

The woman whom when asked what the job of the Vice President was on five different occasions, answered wrong?

I don't mean to be mean, but her personal believes and her "small time mom" attitude, are not qualifications for government.

For the aboe poster this topic is not about letterman to me, it's about the prudishness of Western Society. The vile double standard that exists between both sides of the isle, over ridiculous and un-important comments made by people like him.

Being politically correct is a myth, it only exists in the world of media and government.

Peter Griffin said it best:

Well Sir although I may not approve of what you have said, I will defend to the death your right to say it!.

He was talking about the 14 year old daughter. The one who was actually at the game.

However, he does have writers, and it's possible they mistook one daughter for the other. I doubt they do a lot of research.

For some reason, This Palin family had a huge target on them. It's safe to make fun of them. Probably because they are so "normal", if there is such a thing anymore. They support right to bear arms, and babies. I suppose that makes them evil.

If only the press was as hard on Obama, as they were on her, during the primaries. Maybe then socialism wouldn't be our national punishment.

Did they ever discover who burned down Sarah's church?

That was completely tasteless, but Bristol has put herself in the public eye by becoming a spokesperson for "Vow Not Now", she's fine with drawing attention to the cause because she's Palin's daughter, she's fine with being on the cover of a magazine after graduating from high school because she's Palin's daughter, so guess what folks? Now she has to live with being ridiculed as well for being Palin's daughter. It happens. If she or Palin intend to cry a river over it then she shouldn't be putting herself out there in the first place.

Letterman, by the way, is not a pervert for making a joke. It was a poorly told joke, but he clearly meant Palin's adult daughter who had already been "knocked up".

Eloquent - well spoken and I fully concur,
Thankyou.

"We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter, the 18-year-old girl, who is - her name is Bristol, that's right, and so, then, now they're upset with me…" "These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl. I mean, look at my record. It has never happened. I don't think it's funny. I would never think it was funny. I wouldn't put it in a joke…" "…Governor Palin, if you're watching, I would like you to consider coming to New York City - you and Todd as my guests, or leave Todd at home - I'd love to have you on the show. It'd be exciting…" "All right, so there, I hope I've cleared part of this up. Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No."

Is this off topic?

Sorry if it is .

Oh, so the lefties are elitist? Right. Which lefty couldn't remember how many houses they owned? Which lefty got caught spending tens of thousands of dollars on clothes for her and her family? Give me a break. They're all elitist. If they weren't they wouldn't be running because none of the corporatist would be funding their campaigns.

The joke was a reference to the actions of her now 18-year-old daughter, turned abstinence advocate, Bristol Palin. If you recall she was the one that got "knocked up" before entering into a marriage at 17.

Sarah Palin attacks David Letterman over 'sexually-perverted' joke

But Letterman insisted on his show Wednesday night that he was referring to 18-year-old Bristol Palin, who recently gave birth to a son after roiling the presidential campaign with the revelation she was pregnant.

The unwed Bristol has since become a high profile advocate for abstinence.

Side note: I love it when the anti-PC crowd out there goes conveniently PC and cries foul when it suits them.

Apparently there are some things that are off-limits and potentially offensive to certain groups and segments of the population.

Go figure.

Now where are my fLiP-fLoPz?

Your post was very much on-topic, I was wondering myself why the moderator decided to remove it. It basically sums up how this entire thing is a misunderstanding and that some people are taking a little too much offense to a harmless joke.

Thank you for posting it, again.

I couldnt agree more.

Its just satire people, may not be good but its satire.
Get over yourselves.

agree sounds funny to me

and he now "says it's in poor taste" because he got heat for it...not because he doesn't think it was funny anymore

but the thing is if i had a opinion about palin ( i really dont dislike or like her ) i may take offense and could see why some would be angry but this is life

as far as what palin would have done in gov't ....geez i don't know i don't want to know......heck i don't trust really anyone in there....seems like gov't is just a necessary evil

When his wife owns most of the houses as investment properties, it is reasonable that he not know the current number.

But you knew that; you just wanted to...what?

And which lefty couldn't remember how many states he had visited? 57, with one more to go?

Which lefty got caught spending tens of thousands of dollars on clothes for her and her family?

'Got caught' spending money on clothes for her family? Since when is that a crime?

Give me a break.

It's crap like this that the left has to dredge up to try to sully the name of a decent family.

The point is the elitism of your family owning so much property that you can't keep track, duh.

And which lefty couldn't remember how many states he had visited? 57, with one more to go?

What does that have to do with elitism? Can you say sleep deprivation? By the way I said they were BOTH elitist, but you know that, you didn't quote that on purpose.

'Got caught' spending money on clothes for her family? Since when is that a crime?

Where did I say it was a crime? We're discussing elitism, not crimes. Most Americans can barely afford a couple hundred for their families wardrobes, they don't have thousands of dollars of the GOPs money.

Never said they weren't "decent", had nothing to do with my statement, keep up.

I think it has more to do with the contradictions, goofy/awkward interviews, and absurd boasts that put the target on them. That and being in politics and seeking the position of vice president of the United States.

She certainly provided a lot of easy material but I doubt anyone thinks the Palins are "evil", just a bit "comical".

If only the press was as hard on Obama, as they were on her, during the primaries.

Although I agree that the media did pounce on Palin a lot harder than they did with Biden, this is "The Late Show: with David Letterman", not "CNN".

These sorts of jokes are not out of character for the program, and I've heard a lot worse. Some of his approaches to interviews have made me cringe.

I personally didn't know what to think of Palin, until I saw some of her interviews.
It wasn't the media that convinced me of anything regarding Sarah Palin...it was listening to her actually speak.

I mean...not knowing the member nations of the North American Free Trade Agreement, her extensive international experience she gained from simply going out to her back porch (??), not knowing that Africa is a continent, and finally going on a campaign family shopping spree to the tune of around 150k was just a bit too much for me.

Now I can forgive a few gaffes, but that was just sheer ignorance. She was like a deer in the headlights. I went from laughter, to confusion, and then finally ended up with a sense of pity.

That may be considered "normal" in some parts of the world, but it isn't what I want in a potential vice president or god forbid...president.

She was her own worse enemy.

Even some members of the McCain camp inevitably admitted to this blunder.

You see it as elitism. I see it as 2 busy people with seperate professional lives. How many shares of Heinz stock does Kerry's wife have? Would Lurch know if you asked him?

And which lefty couldn't remember how many states he had visited? 57, with one more to go?

About as much as McCain's knowledge of his wife's investments.

She did it on the request of the GOP. And she returned the clothes.

Your partisan sniping of Palin is very sad, really. Don't hate her because she's beautiful.

You see it as elitism. I see it as 2 busy people with seperate professional lives.

So, you're denying that McCain's wealthy family are as equally elitist as people on the left? That was my point, whether you see the situation differently or not doesn't change that.

How many shares of Heinz stock does Kerry's wife have? Would Lurch know if you asked him?

You're comparing stock to property that a family owns?

About as much as McCain's knowledge of his wife's investments.

You brought up the Obama quote in a discussion about elitism. You could have simply said that my statement had nothing to do with elitism, instead you stated something that has nothing to do with elitism? Come one, that's thoughtless, we both know what you were doing.

She did it on the request of the GOP. And she returned the clothes.

They requested that she spend over a hundred thousand on her entire family and hair dressers, I doubt it. That was clearly an excuse, and guess what, she returned them AFTER the press discovered this and the GOP demanded that she return it.

Your partisan sniping of Palin is very sad, really. Don't hate her because she's beautiful

I'm partisan? I called them both elitist, which you continue to ignore.

Perhaps there a people on this board who are considerate of the feelings of others, and don't appreciate a late night comic making fun of a politcian's family.
I might not like Obama, but my posts will be addressed to issues I have with him. As far as I'm concerned, Michelle and the girls are off limits.
