Mikhail Gorbachev calls for new American revolution

Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet Union’s last communist general secretary, called for a new American "revolution" — also calling it a "perestroika," or government restructuring — in an editorial published Wednesday in The Sydney Morning Herald .

"Some have reacted with understanding. Others have objected, sometimes sarcastically, suggesting that I want the United States to experience upheaval, just like the former Soviet Union. In my country, particularly caustic reactions have come from the opponents of perestroika, people with short memories and a deficit of conscience," the former Soviet leader wrote.

Russia obviously overlooks what their socialism does to its population. While there are more people with money, much more go hungry and all sorts of abuses or abuse all sorts of bad stuff (alcohol/drugs) to cope. In principle socialism works but in reality it cannot because of the ability for those in power to take advantage. In any event democracy, socialism, theocracy...they all look the same today don't they?

It's funny that recently (last year) there was an MSM resurgence in the term a new "cold war" but as soon as the economy started flip flopping like John Kerry and GWB jr/sr then it was all forgotten

I think our country is an amazing thing. But, I don't think our government is great. We get lied to all the time, they try to feed us crap that soooo obviously not true, and they expect us to believe it. I'm only 19, but I've been following the paranormal and the conspiracies of our government since the age of 4. I've seen a lot. And I think we need a change for the better. Our economy sucks and people who are already disgustingly rich are getting richer. Screw them. There are people who really need money. We need a more honest and selfless government. Plain and simple.

You are aware that the conditions you're describing are a direct result of Russia's adoption of neoliberal Capitalist market philosophy after the breakup of the USSR, correct? Granted Communism was no picnic, either, but by most accounts from Russians, it was, economically at least, superior to what they got after the Friedmanites wormed their way into Moscow.

The only reason we were looking at a "new cold war" is because our government is made up primarily of people who are unable to cope with the idea of there not being one - I mean hell, our last SoS' claim to fame was having a degree in studying a nation that didn't exist anymore. Combine that with a bunch of Military brass desperately trying to validate their bloated funding, and that's what you'll get.
