The Media Fall for Phony 'Jobs' Claims - The Obama Numbers Are Pure Fiction

Mr. Fratto sees a double standard at play. "We would never have used a formula like 'save or create,'" he tells me. "To begin with, the number is pure fiction -- the administration has no way to measure how many jobs are actually being 'saved.' And if we had tried to use something this flimsy, the press would never have let us get away with it."

Of course, the inability to measure Mr. Obama's jobs formula is part of its attraction. Never mind that no one -- not the Labor Department, not the Treasury, not the Bureau of Labor Statistics -- actually measures "jobs saved." As the New York Times delicately reports, Mr. Obama's jobs claims are "based on macroeconomic estimates, not an actual counting of jobs." Nice work if you can get away with it.

If the "saved or created" formula looks brilliant, it's only because Mr. Obama and his team are not being called on their claims. And don't expect much to change. So long as the news continues to repeat the administration's line that the stimulus has already "saved or created" 150,000 jobs over a time period when the U.S. economy suffered an overall job loss 10 times that number, the White House would be insane to give up a formula that allows them to spin job losses into jobs saved.

The MSM like to play lapdog and I think more people are starting to realize this very fact; resulting in more people thinking..."what else are they sugar-coating?"

Ahh what twisted webs we weave!

Yes. I haven't heard of anyone's jobs being 'saved' by any of this bailout. Maybe some CEO's. That must be what they are counting!

In my area, layoffs continue and the retail closings continue. Bankruptcies and foreclosures are just now ramping up, we haven't seen their effect yet!

Everyone I know expected a reprieve over the summer, and then a giant dive this fall. Octoberish again.

It is highly suspect that Obama extended unemployment benefits to pad the economy and keep the numbers high for now, but the extensions all run out a month before his first State of the Union Address.

He can show the huge drop in "unemployment benefit" numbers as a success and the MSM will buy it and pound it into our heads. It won't mean people are back to work, it will only mean they aren't collecting benefits any longer!

I am not sure the american people are going to want these so called jobs.

I don't think Obamas "jobs" are what they are all cracked up to be. Socialism.

The Obama administration has spent 44 BILLION DOLLARS already - and unemployment has gone up, home foreclosures have gone up, things are only getting worse. Someone with any economic sense please go to Washington.

Came across this excellent use of obama's own graph, with actual numbers plotted.
