Wow, this is a fascinating article. It goes on to give very interesting examples of how we have used ideas borrowed from the natrual world to advance technology in various forms of production.

My particular favourites are the Sahara Forest Project, or seawater greenhouse: en.wikipedia.org...

and the recent DARPA project to create Stickybots, there was a thread all about DARPA's work recently here: www.abovetopsecret.com...
