Philly ex-cop convicted in $40k drug theft

www.philly.com

PHILADELPHIA - A former Philadelphia police officer has been convicted of robbing a drug kingpin of $40,000 cash and participating in a home-invasion robbery.

Malik Snell said he was the unwitting getaway driver for a brother-in-law in the March 2008 home-invasion attempt in suburban Pottstown. He crashed the car in Pottstown after leading police on a high-speed chase. For the robbery charge, Snell told jurors he did not flash a badge and rob the dealer during a traffic stop.

Snell, who was fired last year, was found guilty of conspiracy, attempted robbery and a weapons offense in connection with a botched home-invasion in Pottstown.

He was also found guilty of taking $40,000 in cash from a South Philadelphia drug kingpin during a bogus police car stop.

Both incidents occurred in December 2007, while Snell was assigned to the 18th District in West Philadelphia.

What a piece of filth! I'm happy he got convicted and hopefully it will send a message to other officers in Philly, that if you break the law you will be prosecuted to furthest extent of the law. Hopefully, when he goes up state they will put him in general population instead of segregation. Once the officers find out were they will go when convicted it will send a chilling effect across the department. Anyway, I'm pleased justice was served and a corrupt officer is off the streets. Now all they have to do is get to the rest of them.

He got what was coming to him. He disgraces himself and the uniform that all peace officers wear. Please don't judge all cops by the dispicable actions of a few.

Hopefully more people have the falls to stand up to these oppressors in the future. Perhaps we can peacefully get back on the right track in regards to the role our local law enforcement plays in our society.
