Yupp, start the party!
2:29 p.m. EDT May 1, 2004 - Saturday is the 73rd anniversary of the opening of the Empire State Building to the public, NewsChannel 4 reported.
At 102 stories, it reigned as the tallest building in the world for 41 years after its opening in 1931.
As of 2003, it is still ranked in the top 10 worldwide, and is the second tallest in the United States, behind only the Sears Tower in Chicago.
The building has a lighting system that allows it to be lit in nine different colors.
