BERLIN — Conservatives raced toward victory in some of Europe's largest economies Sunday as initial results and exit polls showed voters punishing left-leaning parties in European parliament elections in France, Germany and elsewhere.

Some right-leaning parties said the results vindicated their reluctance to spend more on company bailouts and fiscal stimulus amid the global economic crisis.

First projections by the European Union showed center-right parties would have the most seats — between 263 and 273 — in the 736-member parliament. Center-left parties were expected to get between 155 to 165 seats.

I had a feeling that this was going to happen.

This is what the democrats get for sitting on their hands while Europe falls apart.

Not surprising at all. Failed policies which hurt the majority of the public (leftism policies of Universal Health Care, redistribution of wealth, high taxes, etc.) will be punished during election cycles after the problem is clearly identified. What's scary is that this Congress (Pelosi and like-minded Congressional leftists have been trying since 2006) and, new to the party, our President are trying desperately to imitate this European socialism on pure principle, but refuse to look at the effects and consequences of socialism and leftism in Europe and the backlash within the voting public! It does not work, and is not beneficial to 90% of the population! Yet, these policy-makers are so ignorant and stubborn to realize anything beyond their little delusional bubble! Its frustrating, but at least we can look forward to voter backlash in the states. I truly believe that conservatism, although not necessarily within the Republican Party, will strike back in the 2010 Congressional elections against these ignorant House and Senate leftists like Pelosi, Reid, Barney Frank, etc. and, hopefully, in 2012 against Obama in the form of a staunch fiscal conservative in the veins of Ron Paul (not necessarily him).

Those are just my 2 pennies.

EDIT: S & Fed for you =)
