Can't wait for it to begin! For the Dutch team it will be pretty much coming home as many of the South African boers will be supporting the orange machine. They have already said that many of their villages will color orange when the World Cup starts.

North Korea goalkeeper gamble backfires

The North Korean coach, Kim Jong-hun decided to name only two regular goalkeepers in his squad with Kim, who plays for Amrokgang, as the back-up.

It was seen as an attempt to boost the nation's attacking options as they prepare to face Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal in Group G. However, the move has backfired spectacularly after Fifa confirmed that Kim will only be allowed to play as a goalkeeper, not as an outfield player. Unless there is an injury, no changes will be permitted to their final squad.

In a statement, world football's governing body said: "The squad lists that the teams had provided to Fifa by 1 June 2010 are final and can no longer be changed. On the final lists must be no more than 23 players, three of whom shall be goalkeepers.

"The only exception is in the case of a serious injury of a player in the list of 23, who could be replaced up until 24 hours before the first match of the team in the competition.

"The three players listed as goalkeepers can only play as goalkeepers during the World Cup and cannot play outfield. This will be communicated to the teams in the team arrival meetings and will be enforced on match days."

The statement added: "Kim Myong-won will not be allowed to play as an outfield player if he has been put on the list as a goalkeeper."

Best story of the World Cup so far

Englands Manager Fabian Capello has omitted Theo Walcott from The Final 23 man squad for 2010.
What an irony perhaps, as Theo was taken as an unknown to the last WC.
and never played leaving England exposed as Owen and Rooney were absent in the second half of the quarter final clash with Portugal ie Crouch was their only recognised forward left on the bench
Aaron lennon is good as is SWP, but Walcotts omission is perhaps a blunder?
Joe Cole was in effect his memesis, and Joe Cole is far from fit and in form.
Anyway Go England.
Watched Gerrmany play Bosnia , the Germans are good.

The Germans are playing Australia first game, we are in a group of death

Germany is always clinical, and the Bundasleague is one of my favs. They have a lot of their own players in that league which is why they play well together nationally I suspect.

West GErmany was my favourite team in the 70s and 80s, but not that the soceroos are in, I defo go for them

Yes the Germans even with an average group of players can win matches.
They in 2010 have some great players so they will defintley a threat.
The Aussies still have a good chance though, they are disciplined and tough just like the Germans.
Serbia though I feel may be foxing, their warm up games have been dire but warm up games can be very deceptive.
Australia need to get a point off Germany it is essential, and they are capable of taking all three?
England V Australia later is a possibility as is England V Germany this is going to be one interesting World Cup.
THe USA they are a real darkhorse perhaps.

"Another piece of bad news is the last moment of the training. Rio suffered one problem at the knee.

"He has just gone to the hospital for a scan. We hope that it will not be a strong injury."

As for what has caused the injury, there was nothing out of the ordinary.

"It was just a normal tackle in training," Capello added.

Initial reports from South Africa have indicated that the injury might well be ligament damage, in which case Ferdinand could miss the entire World Cup.

Let's hope it's gonna be alright.

A massive blow if we lose Rio.

Should manage ok in the group stages without him but the quarters onwards?
Even a fit Ledley King is no substitute for a fit and in form Rio.

And who will Capello pick as his Captain, Fat Frank or Stevie G?

Me, I'd give it to Rooney, he won't allow any shirkers!

Another big player seems to be out injured.........

Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is set to miss the World Cup with a suspected fractured elbow after he was forced off in a friendly against Japan today. Drogba had put his country 1-0 ahead with a free-kick in the 15th minute against Japan before going down following a challenge from the Japan defender Tulio Tanaka - off whom Drogba's goal had deflected in - and he left the pitch in visible distress.

Drogba was immediately taken to hospital in Sion, Switzerland, where the Ivorians have been undergoing altitude training. "Of course I am worried, he's our captain and one of the best players in the world," said the Ivory Coast manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who attached no blame to Tulio. "It was unlucky, he didn't want to hurt anyone. Football is a game of contact."

The injury is a devastating blow to the player, who was hoping to crown what he termed the finest season of his career by leading his country to glory at the first World Cup to be staged in Africa. The loss of player who has scored 44 goals in 69 appearances for his country – and hit 37 in all competitions for Chelsea this season – severely damages the Elephants' chances of making an impact in South Africa. Ivory Coast are in perhaps the toughest of all groups, with Brazil and Portugal representing formidable obstacles between them and the next round.

With drogba on their team they may have had the slightest of chances of going through but surely not anymore as Brazil and Portugal should be able to handle them.

England defender Rio Ferdinand left hospital on crutches after having further scans on his knee injury suffered earlier in training today in South Africa. The Three Lions captain could be ruled out of the 2010 World Cup finals depending on the results of the scan, with officials claiming that there could be knee ligament damage.

Might as well call Les Dawson up! lol.

Edit to add:

Do you think that Theo will be at this minute making a voodoo doll of SWP and getting ready with the pins?

Haha, at least he won't play.

Carragher to replace Rio and Gerrard made captain.

Emile Heskey has a lot to answer for!

I'm glad Theo didn't go, he played as if he had already secured his place in the squad - cocky swine!

'Cocky swine'.

Seems to sum a lot of them up!

Arrogant so and so's would probably be more apt.

If Didier Drogba is also out of the World Cup that would be some consolation at least. They haven't ruled him out yet but if he has a fractured/broken arm he defo wont be playing.

I still say it was a dive

He's out, it has been confirmed. Really sad news.

Drogba probably too:
