All it means is that we've found something weird that may challenge current models. This does not invalidate the entire branch of science. Just changes and refines some aspects of it.

I'm with the seismologists over cranks and crackpots with no evidence whatsoever. The current seismologically-deduced model is the best fit at the moment and makes more sense even than (hah, did you really think about it?) honeycombing which, given the pressures and temperatures is a laughable concept.
Sure, Halley and Euler (oiler) may have had some good ideas but this ain't one of them!
