Military Intelligence Used to Shutdown BitTorrent Site

Born in 2005, SnowTigers offered all the usual BitTorrent site content but being French, also carried links to home grown music and movies, a situation the authorities moved to end this week.
France is becoming known as a country engaging in an increasingly aggressive fight against piracy and their enthusiasm seems to have gone through the roof in this case.

It seems that the French copyright police can now use the military collaboration to gather info on trackers.

If the military help can be requested to provide info from a private company to anti piracy groups then what stops it from spying on you?

I think after a certain amount of time, when a movie, album, computer game etc has made such an income, it should be free. how many times have you had to buy another copy of the same album or game due to scratches? how many times has a VHS been chewed up in the machine?

Sometimes, yeah companies make amazing things. But when is enough profit enough? Even if a deadline was set on certain entertainment, say after 5 years, 10 years etc it becomes free.

Torrents are another issue altogether, you run so many risks downloading them. Such things as viruses, sickening porn, snuff material etc... Also you could spend weeks downloading something only for it to be the wrong part (personal experience :mad

In all, the companies shouldn't be mad, they make so much money anyways, and people who do download stuff buy the real thing anyway, if they like it.

i am getting SICK of the nazi state

im not a pirate or anything (for the most part)

as i buy almost all software i have (having a legit disk is very beneficial anyway)

but i believe that "downloading" software has actually increased my buying habits, because i often times test out a game/software/movie/music first, and once i decide i like it i DO buy it at the store locally

therefore these copyright police can go to HELL and burn for Eternity for all i care

Bush wasn't Hitler, but his grandfather did finance the Nazi's... Brids of a feather fly together.

On topic: none of this is about piracy, it's all about control. The media markets have almost all grown, the gaming market is huge, and a whole load of normal media is still sold. Besides, the money itself is as pirated as the information on any bittorrent site. It's far more scandalous that a bank can conjour currency than a person can copy, let me repeat so people can come to the conclusion it's not stealing, can COPY a file.

Bittorrent allows for the sharing of information outside control and censorship. It allows for people to create memes without the mediation of authority. It is peer to peer. It's a control freak's nightmare.

This is why it's repressed, not the media industry's profits, although that is a secondary motivation.

As for me, I support information freedom as long as it's not linked to criminal activities that harm the well being of other individuals and think IP should simply be canned, it does nothing but make the rich richer and slow the world down to crawl.

Hate to point this out again but what they are doing is 100 percent legal and justified. Piracy is a FELONY and you have no right as a consumer to expect ANYTHING for free. Unless you want to square up and donate your services in lieue of a paycheck. Somehow I don't see this happening.

More than anything this movement has shown just how egocentric and selfish most people are in the society.

The site was not one of the largest, I BT all the time and Ive never even heard of it. Talk about spin and BS.

Actually, using torrents is better than any alternative besides buying overpriced crap. The community is pretty much self regulated . . . especially on the more respected sites.
