I noticed these messages in Hip Hop as well; however, it seemed to me that the real message was that Hip Hop was the primary tool used to deliver information concerning a bunch of psychopathic behavior.

The main groups I studied were Mobb Deep, Wu Tang Clan and DMX. In many songs they communicated ideas and ways of living that were totally contradictory to living a decent life. For example, in Mobb Deep's song Quiet Storm, a collaboration with Lil Kim, Havoc states that he likes to send Lil Kim to "rock him to sleep and make him think the drama is dead" and went on to say something along the line of, "i'll be plotting instead".

In the above example, I interpret this as instructions to use your woman to distract a male target while you look for the opportunity to throttle him and take his money or life; much in the tradition of Gilgamesh. Which to me makes the whole song into type of contemporary Sumerian playbook on how to live.

In Wu Tang's The Mystery of Chessboxin, a song featuring the entire cast of rappers: What I heard are several admissions of guilt to a murder that was committed in the early seventies and justification for the murder.

I agree that Hip Hop does enlighten and make aware, but from my studies, all I can hear are instructions for treachery, murder and justification for these acts.

Another example would be any from DMX. Based on his albums one can clearly see that this guy is truely tormented by demons and the desire for redemption. This can also be seen in his real life.

I do watch to see what will ultimately happen in their lives and careers, but from what I can tell the music that is being produced by these artists now as compared to what was coming out in the earlier to late 90s, has changed somewhat to reflect a diminished desire to be apart of some great battle and I think they just want to go to the party, hang out with friends and have a good time. A nice safe time. We should hope for the same.

I just noticed that the person who began this thread considers himself to be a reptilian shapshifter, so none of what I wrote should be a surprise.
