And why should they eliminate him? It always amazes me how fast americans want to go kill anyone the news tells them they shouldnt like. Since when has it become a crime, punishable by murder, to have a different opinion on social practices and ideologies than the US?

Since when has it become an offense, punishable by death, to oppose corporations and their expansion in your country, and to try a different form of government than capitalism?

And WHY, WHY, WHY do americans think its ok to run out and kill over differences of opinion?! Has Hugo Chavez killed anyone? Has his country attacked anyone? Are there venezuelan terrorists here trying to bring down government buildings? If anything, THEY have more reason to hate and attack US, and they are justified!!

What is the general americans justifications for these ideas? Is it ok to kill them because they are corrupt? We have, i think, MUCH more corruption on a much more massive scale here. Our oil, pharmaceutical, and farming corporations are rife with it, as are our FDA, CIA, etc....so is it justifiable to hold forth about killing them as well? What a crock of brainwashing and double standards.

I am not American but if i would see that CHavez would confiscate Dutch companies and nationalize it, i woulnt be so happy either..besides CHavez has taken out the latest source of free speech in his country, why would you do that?..If you don't think he's a dictator you really are being ignorant..

What definitions of poverty are you using and who collates them?

First off, i wouldnt say he took over american companies. He retook his peoples oil resources from the INTERNATIONAL corporations that served only themselves, and has used that to massively expand healthcare and education.

As far as him closing down the last "free newspaper" .....thats not how i heard it, i heard he had closed down the last news outlet that was controled and funded by the CIA for undermining his government....however, even if this is not the case, the US Certainly cannot say anything about it, as if i recall correctly we just arrested and imprisoned a man a few months ago for broadcasting Al Jazeera on his website, so its not like we allow any dissenting news to be spread either. I guess that means america is a dictatorship as well, eh?

I think we are all missing the bigger picture. I find it highly suspect that all of these questionable leaders (for lack of a better word) are suddenly coming out of the woodwork all at the same time.

I personally believe that it's because Obama has presented a "tuck your tail between your legs" and hide behind all of the "mistakes" of the prior administration.

The more Obama apologizes to everyone in the world (whether it's deserved or not) the weaker we appear and the more brazen these leaders will get.

Think about everyone we are currently having problems with:

Israel(Obama has created tension betweem Israel and the US and increasee the possibility of Israel taking matters into their own hands with Iran)

Cuba (Obama said he wouldn't offer any further negotiations or compromises until Cuba met us halfway - and then went ahead and offered another olive branch by discussing allowing Cubans to migrate to the US)

Iran(Obama has now backed down and said that he understands why they need nuclear power and should be entitled to it with supervision)

North Korea(everybody knows about this - but I do want to add that I find it highly suspect that the word nuclear keeps getting used to create additional fear - a word that everybody usually avoids saying altogether)

Venezuela (I believe purposely false info was passed to Chavez to create tension there as well)

Further, we are already at war in Iraq and Afganistan. We also have military monitoring and fighting the Somali Pirates.

Not to mention dealing with the auto industry, financial sector, housing market, and employment.

Anyone else getting nervous yet?

**Keep in mind: it's only been about 130 days***

Ah, i see. All of that is Obama's fault. None of that sort of thing ever occured under Bush, or any of the past presidents. Korea never rattled its saber before. Hugo Chavez never made any inflammatory comments before. Cuba never....did whatever it is that cuba does that makes us hate them so much (have different ideas) before...its all new under Obama.

Funny how this completely ignores the FACT that the threat of terrorism under Bush, a horrible hawk and warmonger, actually grew exponentially in response to our american aggression.

Lpowell....i think your article just demonstrates your ignorance. These leaders didnt just "come out of the woodwork"...they have been there for a long time. The fact that YOU just became aware of them merely shows that you most likely paid no attention to foreign events until the news just recently brought them to your attention. This is another perfect example of the average american who has no clue about anything until the "news" informs him.

Most likely you have no knowledge of american involvement in the overthrow of irans mosadegh and the instillation of our own puppet despot, nor our similar actions in vietnam, columbia, and many other countries. Most likely you have no knowledge of our support for such despots as mogabe, baby doc and papa doc, suharto, pinochet, truhillo, and many other despots historically as they oppressed their people violently and catered to our corporate sector. Most likely you have no knowledge of the fact that we trained and armed bin laden to disrupt the afghan government and draw the USSR into a war, long before he came to our soil to foment mischief....or that we supported Saddam, as he catered to our oil sector, and gave him arms and WMD's while encouraging him to attack Iran. Most likely you have no knowledge of the fact that the war in Georgia last year was started by our puppet Sakashvilli the president of georgia, and Russia was there to defend the ossetians, not the aggressor. After all, these things rarely make it to the news.

Until you know of these events, some basic history of american foreign policy which is NOT taught by the "news" i dont think you really have the education to make any informed statements about Chavez, Ahmadinejad, or any other leaders, as you'll most likely be spewing the rhetoric that has been fed you by our favorite news channel of the day.

Its a damn shame and a sad world we live in when attempts to diplomacy are considered cowardice. This firmly supports my earlier statements that most americans dont want to deal with issues, they just want to kill them.

I would also like to add something further....sorry for droning on folks. Its not that we are having "problems" with these countries. None of them are threatening us, none of them have attacked us, or are attempting to cause us mischief.

Most of the "trouble" we are having is that these countries are trying to exercise "self determination" and we dont like that. Iran is trying to protect itsself from a visibly and verbally threatening israel, as well as trying to garner solidarity and goodwill among the muslim countries, and we dont like that. Cuba has been trying to be independent, and work with a socialist style government, and we dont like that. Venezuela is trying to use its natural resources for the good of its people, and also trying to expand solidarity with the south american union, and we dont like that. They are not causing us trouble, as their actions actually have little effect on our peoples direct economy or lives. Indeed, the opposite is true...for the most part, WE are causing THEM problems, and our problem is that they wont just sit there and take it. We instigate coups in their countries, we dissemenate propaganda among their peoples, we enact trade embargos and sanctions upon them (which are defined as acts of war) and try to manipulate their elections, or refuse to recognize people they vote into power if we dont like their policies... if any country did that to US, it would be an uproar and an outrage, but apparently they are not as human as us, so most americans think its ok for our government to treat them this way.

The US does not by any means have the monopoly on morals or ethics, we never did, in fact we have been involved in more wars and altercations since WWII than any other country. We have no place interfering in others business, and sadly the fact of the matter is that most of our interference has to do with garnering their natural resources for ourselves. If we stopped bothering them and trying to rob them blind (with our IMF) most likely even the small amount of saber rattling that you DO see would melt away. There would be rainbows, and flowers, people singing and dancing....and Bunnies, yes bunnies everywhere!

Delusions of Grandeur. Chavez wants desperately to be considered important enough to be on the long list of heads of states that the CIA want murdered. What an idiot. If the CIA wanted him gone he would no longer be here, comprehende? The only reason he is still alive is because no one has deemed him important enough to get rid of him. Not yet anyway.

They wouldn't just "murder" Chavez, that would be too obvious they'd come under-fire..., you obviously haven't been following the us+Chavez series for long eh?, they have a long history
you'll understand what i mean some day, If chavez died right now, you'd hear it all throughout the world with US as the main target, they're known blatantly to be the ones directly involved in assassination plots, who dares say that the US is directly involved... you my friend are the delusional one

Take iran for example, they're protecting them-seleves against the WEST+ISRAEL, we all know they're not a direct threat. But we're making them a threat..., chavez is the same sort of story..., it's about the oil from both
