I work with black Americans, they all have degrees, well paid jobs, and they love life.

There is however a vocal contigent of the black community who go around saying things like "you hate us all" as thinly veiled justification for events such as this one in Philadelphia.

You appear not to have noticed that Obama, a black man, could not have gained office were it not for the support of MILLIONS of white voters who put him into office.

That's right, millions of white people voted to put a black man in charge of them.

This huge "they hate us, so we can do anything because we're angry" comfort blanket that certain sectors of the black community have wrapped themselves in for so long came undone on the night of the election.

I'm afraid that you're just going to have to live with the fact that we actually quite like you, all we ask is that you start liking us back.

it sounds like what you're proposing is a "cleansing".

other than jail time for the perpetrators of this collective act of extreme stupidity and vicious assaults and demand restitution for property damage they've caused, i don't know what else to expect from the courts to punish teenagers who are incredibly violent and dense beyond words.

incidents like this and in my own state anger me because it brings out of the woodwork, people who inevitably say: see, that's how black folks are. it enforces a stereotype that is not true. and some people will never believe it's not true.
this incident should be a wake up call to the parents of these teens. the time to get your priorities straight is at hand. it should have always been at hand.
children raised by true parents, not "buddies", are less likely to even fathom doing something this stupid and illegal. true parents meaning, they taught self-respect, responsibility, and values that shape a child into a useful and productive contributor to their own community. what i've noticed is that some parents have essentially given up on the job of parenting. they may feed, clothe, and house this child. but, they've offered nothing in the way of guiding the child to make good choices.
when you've shirked your responsibility as a parent, you've left society to deal with the consequences of your poor choices.

bill cosby was criticized for saying that the black families need to get things in order. but, some agree with what he said. i believe he had a valid point.
there is obviously something lacking in these young people's lives that they would even fathom, let alone participate, in recklessly violent behavior.
i can only speak from experience. i wasn't raised in a two-parent household. i was living from foster to foster home until i turned eighteen. in those days, foster homes consisted of incredibly devout christians/baptists,etc.
if i ever thought of doing something like this, i would've been smacked upside of my head ten ways till sunday or worse. i never received a beating. the idea of that punishment was enough to keep me away from making bad choices. some people do not agree with corporal punishment, some practice it.
either way, it's time to step up to plate and parent your children.
if they don't, then enjoy visiting your children at the jailhouse or cemetary.

Well, no, you didn't. That's because it's not a hateful place for you. Thats because you walk down the street without security guards chasing you down, guns drawn, for no reason. That's because no one bothers you. You just go about your day carefree. You don't look around you and see the destroyed people, on the corner, begging for money, for food, you name it.

You don't see the victims of hate and injustice. All you see is what you want. the website was not created to organize and commit violent acts against people and destroy property.
the website has given members the option of being grouped by cities.
most likely those members got together and planned the riot.

It does not have to spout hate to be racist. It simply has to be about segregating us by race to be racist. If a site said it was a place for white people to socialize would you not call that a racist site no matter if it spread hate or not?

This reminds me of that old argument: "Imagine a TV network called (WET) White Entertainment Television?" Even if they did not allow any hate speech on their network but only allowed content that was white race centric, people would call it racist by definition and of course they would be correct in saying so.

The double standards keep us self segregated and in our own little corner with only people around us that are like us. I fail to see why anyone can deny this basic fact. If you make a site that is race specific it will attract racist plain and simple.

Why not sign up for an account on www.ourspace.com... and go to the Philadelphia forums and ask around there? I do not think you will find your answer here since all that is available here is this news clip. Any response to you from anyone here other than a witness to the events would have to be just speculating.
