Anti-war protesters to rally against Bush in T.O.

www.ctv.ca

Anti-war activists will be converging on downtown Toronto Friday afternoon to vent their anger at former U.S. president George Bush, who is making a joint speaking appearance with Bill Clinton at the Metro Convention Centre.

The "Toronto Coalition to Stop the War," which claims to represent more than 70 groups in the GTA, plans to erect a three-metre high image of Bush dressed as a prison inmate, at which protesters can throw shoes.

The coalition calls Bush a "war criminal" and wants the

Oh oh, more shoes!
hehe

I have no clue what Georgie is doing in Canada or even why he was invited for that matter.

Why did Canada invite the worst U.S. president in history?

Anyhow, I guess this is a good protest so that the politicians know that War Criminals are NOT welcome here in Canada.

You can make the argument that Bush isn't even president anymore so this entire demonstration is futile, but not doing this might portray an image that war criminals are welcome here.

They do know he can't actually do anything about the wars anymore, right? If they want them to stop, they need to picket in front of the White House.

Why did Canada invite the worst U.S. president in history?

According to a panel of historians, that statement isn't true. Overall, W isn't even in the bottom five.

What are you talking about? They didn't invite Obama.

Seriously though ... he isn't president and his popularity, especially among socialist type gov'ts, is rather low. So why'd he get invited anyways?

I can understand anti-Bush protests, but why anti-War protests?
Obama is in office. He's the one that promised to end it all by now
in instead stepped up war efforts overseas.

Odd.

Yes, and I agreed with you that the demonstration is futile. Did you read my response, that Bush isn't the worst president in history?

Anyone with sense knows that Bush was a great president. Of course, they invited him to listen to his words of wisdom and to be able to share their gratitude for the work he had done as President. After all, he set in motion the acts that will protect the world from terrorism. I wish I could have been there.

Actually Obama is very popular here in Canada
more so than Canada's own politicians

I take the train to work and I always see old black ladies reading Obama's book.

But that's only because he is popular with them as a celebrity, not because of his views.... whatever they might be.

But I would have to disagree and say Bush was worse than Obama is.
Bush is responsible for Genocide and Theft.
Obama is responsible for alot more theft than Bush but so far not really genocide.

And of course Cheney is far worse than both Biden and Obama combined.

Genocide? If your talking about all those mass un-marked graves our troops found in iraq, that wasn't President Bush.

Bush being in Canada, even if for a short stop, is a huge insult to us Canadians.

But, as usual, we're making the most of an insult, getting a little humour out of it.

There's a huge poster of bush outside the convention centre Bush was speaking at, the poster depicts bush in an orange prison jumpsuit... and the point? It's become a bit of a free carnival game : Try to hit his head with a shoe. Not sure if you get a prize or not, maybe just a cheer.

Meanwhile inside the convention centre, some schmucks are paying $250 dollars.
Some people just want to throw shoes at the real deal I guess.

Either way, letting Bush into Canada was incredibly insulting.
Clinton we don't mind... maybe we can hear him play the sax or something... but Bush's presence here is an insult to our view of the law, and the English language.

Some of the quips the local radio stations were making about his visit were amusing.
We'll always make light of a negative event though... it's kind of a speciality up here.

Thanks for the gesture, but you guys can have him back now...
... no really... please... take him back. No charge for the babysitting, just don't send him here again.
