In combat, I made it a practice to forgive my enemies.

As a keynote speaker at Special Operations functions, I also implore these young warriors to likewise forgive their enemies.

Kill 'em and forgive 'em.

No hard feelings.

It is funny to see Ed playing a badass in most of his movies. He was a nerd boy when we were friends.

What's the conspiracy connection here?

I hate alot of people on ATS.

I like what some people on ATS say.

Without hate, love would be meaningless.

Think about THAT.

Well dooper, you are so politically incorrect. Its better to stack them up like cork wood, pour a little diesel on them and set them on fire to warm your C rations (MRE’s now), then you can actually appreciate them.

The second time somebody has asked that... Let me just say this:

A few weeks ago I came across an ol' saying that "The World is a reflection of yourself"... and for some reason it kinda made sense, but I was never able to explain it. In the video I posted, you'll notice that Edward Norton is looking into the mirror talking to himself... And what is he talking about? The World (particularly all the people of the world). After he spews out his hate and disgust for the world, it finally dawns on him... He only hates himself.

Somehow... I've had similar feelings about the world as of late, and somehow those feelings were starting to consume me and I realized all I can do is look at myself. Well, I'm not gonna give into to the hate anymore... That's what my true enemy wants. Instead, I'm going to love and pray for them... and I will love and pray for myself in a humble way as well.

I know it can be easy to forget this, and it might not be true for everyone... But the biggest enemy your going to have to face in this life is yourself.

And when you say:

"Without hate, love would be meaningless."

well, that my friend is what personally believe is the meaning of this life. How can you appreciate heaven if you haven't seen hell? I could talk about this for hours.

No Tesla?

I forgot the Illuminati have no love for Tesla after
he dissed Einstein.

So how would anyone know about him except for conspiracy forums
and Illuminati web sites telling lies.

People say they love and admire Tesla but believe Illuminati
science and lies.

Add having more than 3 dimensions is as unreal as 2 D cartoons.
Naturally 4D space tends to curve and go nowhere.

While I respect your opinion, at the same time I disagree. I'm sure you have heard the saying "things will get worse before they get better" right? Well the worse part is about to begin to happen. (if it hasn't already) That's alright though, because the outcome will of course, be better.

The World at present is going through the beginning "birth pains". And yes the "new born" world will be "perfect".

Edit: afterthought

[edit on 29-5-2009 by Zeus2573]

You act as if this is the first time things have got worse. There have been plenty of times things have got worse and NEVER gotten better. Look at North Korea, The people in North Korea have never seen good times and most of them will live the rest of there lives in proverty and in fear. This "new born" world that you and others speak about is nothing but what you and others want to happen and not something thats going to happen. Do you know what its called? It's called a fantasy.

Right on Op. Star from me! If only the entire world would see things this way as well. What a wonderful world this would truly be. Someday things will be that way.

Hatred= A complete waste of energy.

Hi Zeus I was wondering where you were hanging out. This thread was very timely and a needed reminder for all of us. I think t here are wayyy more nice people here at ATS than naughty people.

Regarding the "where's the conspiracy" portion of this thread. The conspiracy is the enslavement and forced stagnation through hatred. The greatest evil is the one that goes unrecognized.

"Violence begets violence; hate begets hate; and toughness begets a greater toughness. It is all a descending spiral, and the end is destruction — for everybody. Along the way of life, someone must have enough sense and morality to cut off the chain of hate." - Martin Luther King Jr.

We frail humans are at one time capable of the greatest good and, at the same time, capable of the greatest evil. Change will only come about when each of us takes up the daily struggle ourselves to be more forgiving, compassionate, loving, and above all joyful in the knowledge that, by some miracle of grace, we can change as those around us can change too. - Máiread Corrigan-Maguire

And what harm came to you from a moment of contemplating the seemingly impossible? Were you subdued in your moment of weakness? And the point is not to be unaware and unarmed. The point is to choose your path rather than be led.

To play the devil's advocate on this one:

EVERY ethnicity has a similar video of their own.

Loving someone you don't know, including siding with their causes is a game for martyrs, fools and flower wearin' hippies.

I love and respect those worth respecting. And if you just so happen to be from a race that I've had lots of trouble with in my life? You don't have much time to show that you are different than what I'm "expecting"

Then again...it kinda gives you the warm and fuzzies thinking of a World where everyone respects and loves one another.

**applauds in agreement**

Now, regarding the original OP......
While the idea of loving all humanity is a wonderful head in the clouds type of idealism, it just doesn't work that way. Yes, it's unfortunate that there has to be hate and war in the world. But, it's a fact of life. It didn't work back in the 60's when the "Flower Children" were spouting love and peace in between their
hits of acid and it doesn't work now. I do try to love people in general but because of the fact that there are downright evil, despicable people in the world,
I won't lie and say I do. But, I do treat people as I would like to be treated.
When they don't return in kind, sometimes I turn the other cheek, but a lot of times I don't.

Well being a resident of the EU I can understand your pacifist emasculated will and thought processes. Yes I am a ‘redneck’ and proud of it; we good old American Redneck Boys have saved your European behinds more than once, though I would probably have let the Germans have you for all your worth as allies.

Well unfortunately! I did say 'redneck comments!' - Sorry to all those rednecks that I offended with that poor choice of word! - my bad!

I send an apology to all!

And from my heart and mind - (no need to grab my balls here!)
:

I'm sorry! - and I know your grandpa's did a great thing 65years ago in Europe! - even if the neutral country that I was born in, were not liberated!

But if you think it's perfectly normal to bring up the threat of death and destruction with a 7.62 Nato delivery system and have them by the testicles in a thread about love, I guess I have proved my point?

And to have people by the balls under threat of weaponry and through the barrel of a gun is in my opinon inconsistent with love.

And NO!! their hearts and minds will NOT follow!

pacifist emasculated will and thought processes

Ha-ha!
good one!

Well I'm no pacifist since I have been a soldier myself! and I do hunt, so I am familiar with guns of many different types!

I'm a 199cm Viking machine! - and I eat Brokeback Mountain cowboy "Girlie men" for breakfast - so no emasculated thought process neither!
(Joking!)

But let us not fight about this crap! - and sorry for hurting your feelings!

I thought the comment you made about 7.62's & ball grabbing against other human beings in a thread about love was corny! - that's all!

Peace!

I hear you. What I've done in my live is possibly not completely defensible. HOWEVER, I am no longer that person. I have been to war. What I CAN do is not focus on hatred. I too, find it difficult to love everyone. What I can do is try to understand, and in doing so, mitigate my hate.

HEH. A new slogan. Mitigate the hate -- ease it back to a position where people can talk, even if their position seems abhorrant to me. We all have to occupy this blue ball we call home. Seems to me if nations and in particular national leaders could just focus on things beneficial for their own people, things would be better. Regrettfully, several places seem to have an agenda that is a threat to the world as a whole. What's their goal? Moreover, what's the cure?

I'm not so certain that the OP isn't on the right track -- love all and hope it spreads -- however I acknowledge that I'm currently not evolved enough to do so. Check with me in 17 years.

Cheers

Thank you OP. This is the kind of thing i've been saying for a while that only through love will we prevail and evolve. once people set aside there differences and come together in peace will things get better, and yes there will always be those hateful people, but dont let them drag you down with them, just because they are evil and hateful doesnt mean you have to be the same the same way towards them.

there are still things and people in this world i despise but that negativity will only bring negativity so its a thing we all gotta work. We will always have that hate emotion in our hearts, but its up to you whether you want to let it consume you or will you rise up above it and disregard the flaws of everyone because we are all one, that is we all make up one entity. we are all brothers and sisters.

and to people saying its okay to hate. Look where hate has got us in this world. It's getting worse and worse by the day. genocides, racism, wars etc. just for once people should take time to stop and appreciate the fact that there still here and work constructively on a way to better themelves and in turn better off humanity.

and that movie on the clip is from 25th hour directed by ed norton and spike lee pretty good film. if youve seen fight club youll know what to expect from the film

This "philosophy" of "love everyone, including your enemy" is a bunch of hippie drivel. No matter what you do in this world, there will always be someone there to hate you. Personally, living in a world where everyone loves each other is boring and Utopian. Sounds like SOCIALISM to me!

I prefer individuality, and I'll hold on to my hatred of certain people and things (as well as what freedom I have left).

[edit on 29-5-2009 by CreeWolf]

At the risk of sounding "hippie"

I want to ask do you really hate? or you just don't like certain people (race has nothing to do with this)? I believe it is the latter for most people and when the word love is used as in the context of the OP. this kind of love is called "Philos",which is love based on friendship and mutual respect.

We are creatures of love that have thrust ourselves into what appears to be a world of hate. Look around you, look and relations in America. We have got to learn to live as one or we will all perish as fools.

So I think that when most of us say hate (me included) we really don't mean that literally.

First,thank you for your service.

When you were in combat, what ever difference(if you had any) with the next guy didn't even enter you mind, did it? because it was you all against them.

I found this out when I served and it totally dispelled all the stereotypes that I was raised with and I learned to treat everybody on his or her own merit.

Not saying that I mistreated anybody, but it did change my mind set.

Nothing could be further from the truth from the way that I was
raised, (I refuse to say reared),my upbringing was to hate the sin, love the sinner.
I can love that this guy is being honest, I abhor his testament to ignorance.
Nothing, in his experience, as in correspondence to mine, could be further from the truth.
Poor hater, doomed to be, I guess.
