I'm sure they do, but that's no defense for someone entering the country illegally to do it.

Great idea! Citizenship of the child ought to be based on the citizenship of the parents.

My thoughts exactly, Ferris.Bueller.II. The only reason things are the way they currently are is because freed slaves needed to be made citizens, officially. This law has been obsolete for quite a while, now.

All this is just a racist move to stir up the pot. Anchor babies aren't the problem. The government is.

But so people won't wail and put pressure on the government to do something, they throw out this kind of garbage.

Does anyone here know how many of these birthright citizens grow up to be productive tax paying, law abiding, responsible US citizens?

The government don't even know. I wonder how many of these birthright citizens have served their country with honor and dignity? I wonder how many of them have grown up to be respected members of their community?

Probably the only concerned I see is that they can apply for status for their family. But even then they would have to wait till they are 18 to apply for them and even then their family members will have a long expensive waiting period until they are accepted. That is if family members are accepted.

No Jenna, the problem isn't anchor babies. Get the government to go after the employers who hire illegals with a vengeance, secure the border, and shorten the amount of time applicants have to wait to be accepted.

Get the government to blame themselves and do their job according to the legislation they have on the books and I promise you that anchor babies and illegal immigration wouldn't be such an issue.

BTW

but that's no defense for someone entering the country illegally to do it.

There is also no defense for people to lay the blame of bankrupt hospitals at the feet of birthright citizens and their illegal parents. There are many contributing factors as to why hospitals go bankrupt.

I agree that all of that needs to be done as well. There is a whole list of things that need to be taken care of in order to resolve the illegal immigration issue. I see this as a step in the right direction. It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with expecting the laws of our country to be followed instead of abused. Not all illegals are from Mexico.

Yes there are, but the parents coming into the country illegally for the sole purpose of having a baby or getting healthcare are not helping the situation, they are making it worse.

Father ia a US serving in US military in Europe married to a wife who is a US citizen have a child while stationed in Europe. Child is not considered natural born and not eligible to become president of the Unitied States.

Illegal alien mother sneaks across border and has a child in a Texas hospital. Child is considered natural born and is eligible to become president of the United States.

Something is very wrong with this picture.

Well put, Jenna. There are enough people who actually are citizens defrauding the health care industry and causing price increases for the rest of us, we don't need people jumping the border (any border) to add to the situation.

Another excellent point. The 'birthright citizenship' clause is unfair to many, many people. The only just thing to do is repeal it.

The best example to explain the 'anchor baby' I've heard is, do you feel it would be right if a female broke into your house, had a baby, then the law demanded you raise that child to 18 years of age, and sponsor all the immediate relatives of that child while you raise it?

These illegal aliens come over have anchor babies, commit identity theft (costing innocent people thousands of dollars a piece minimum to clean up as well as lots of time), draw welfare, steal American jobs, etc. The government wants this to continue though because they're all for globalization.

Half of the 47 million ‘American’ without insurance ARE illegal’s – you should read the rest of a study when only the first paragraph is reported – the rest are mostly Americans under thirty-five who do not want to spend the extra money on health insurance because they are young and healthy. More propaganda by socialist medicine promoters who want nothing more than control of the vast amount of money spent in the private sector on health care.

All of you rocket scientist who are for government controlled health care, go visit a Veterans Administration Hospital and walk the patient floors – should cure even the most mentally challenged want to be socialist. As for illegal’s, they are given Medicaid without question. Just met a whole family of illegal’s who the State of Ohio has given food stamps, welfare, Medicaid and helped get an apartment for.

Which is the point, this problem will not stop because they even had ‘Voters Registration’ Cards in their packets from Social Services. Once they have a legal drivers license they will be good Democrat voters. The heck with Acorn, the Democratic states are stacking the voters roles – and you think VOTING will cure our problems?

It really makes me fume when people still insist on attacking poor people for wanting to live the American dream. It's thinly veiled racism.

Personally, I would rather have my tax dollars spent educating and providing health care for poor immigrant families than, say, occupying a certain country in the middle east.

How about the citizens who work and live overseas for long periods of time, who find a foreign wife?

Which country do their kids belong to?

They need to file an immigrant visa for their baby?

I have always understood the reason for having the 14th Amendment, but I have always believed that we no longer should have it. US citizenship should be from the US citizenship of at least one parent.
