Shots Fired Inside New York Sheriff's Office

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Dutchess County Sheriff's office in Poughkeepsie has been evacuated and surrounding streets closed, because police say a shot was fired in the building.

City Police Lt. David Bennett says a shot was fired but no other details are immediately available. Capt. Steven Minard told The Poughkeepsie Journal that a man barricaded himself in the building with a gun.

People visiting inmates at the county jail were told to leave and police emergency teams surrounded the building.

Poughkeepsie is about 70 miles north of New York City.

Pretty short story, and there almost no information here.
Kind of wierd isnt it ??

Two things that are not uncommon among police are suicide and complete lack of safe firearm handling practices.

They also have a notoriously high rate of divorce.

These would be my guesses as to why a weapon was discharged in the building.

I would take a guess and say that if the man is in the building with a gun he is either Law Enforcement or took it from Law Enforcement. You must go through metal detectors to get in those buildings. I have been in a Federal Building in downtown Norfolk, VA and they pat you down, scan you, look in your socks, and you walk through the metal detector as well.
