POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Dutchess County Sheriff's office in Poughkeepsie has been evacuated and surrounding streets closed, because police say a shot was fired in the building.
City Police Lt. David Bennett says a shot was fired but no other details are immediately available. Capt. Steven Minard told The Poughkeepsie Journal that a man barricaded himself in the building with a gun.
People visiting inmates at the county jail were told to leave and police emergency teams surrounded the building.
Poughkeepsie is about 70 miles north of New York City.
