News of the World.

Sorry for the long link, I don't know how to shorten them.

Well this new technology is great, if it's saving kids from all sorts of dirty (snip) and paedophiles. But is this ONLY being used on them?? How many times have do you use Google?

This is a good idea, but how can it only scan suspects computers?

Maybe it's the Conspiracy Theorist in me...

Edit to fix link.

Your link doesn't work for me
and googling "Google: No Longer Safe for Sex Offenders" gets no results.

The link didn't work for me but it could be my dodgy browser. If RenDMC's link doesn't work for you, try link.

I don't think anyone will criticize the tracking down of pedophiles. My only concern would be the application of the technology to find other images, such as cops beating a bloke for no reason and that person subsequently dying (G20 summit, London).

Edit for my lousy typing.

Oh lawdy how embarassing... lol
mithrawept got the correct link, thanks for that. I fully support anyone/anything that closes disgusting child molestation rings. But this tech. seems a bit.... fishy to me.

Like a lot of things the technology could be used in a number of applications. We all applaud the measures to combat pedophiles but I agree, it could be used differently.

Give a gun to a honest cop, it helps protect their safety and ours. Give the gun to a criminal, it could be a different story.

In Australia, and this could happen anywhere under present day laws, a man was found guilty of possessing child pornography because he had a single naughty take-off of a Simpsons cartoon on his hard drive.

'Simpsons' sex toon is child porn: Judge

I'm a staid old grandma and I had the same cartoon on my hard drive. My teenage niece sent it to me because she thought it was funny, and it made me laugh too. Needless to say we both have new hard drives now with nothing on them that could displease the strictest puritan ... apart from ATS membership.

"Protecting the children" is being used as a Trojan horse to bring in all sorts of measures that help government eavesdrop on us all and allow it to lock up anyone it chooses.

Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
Ill be watching you

Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
Ill be watching you

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
Ill be watching you
(Police)

Google's system is so sophisticated it can even spot matches in an image's pixels after paedophiles have tried to retouch or alter it.

We need to use this on NASA photo's and UFO photo's.

I agree that this is a good thing if its only used on pedophiles but the thought that I have is that it will be used under the guise of only protecting people. The true implications of this mean more surveillance, and less privacy for everyone else. What assurance do we have that this is only being used against pedo's and not average Joe citizen?
