In survival situations in winter, one may think that they would be hard pressed to forage anything to eat. Well guess what...there are some tree barks
that are edible. Pull or cut off a piece of bark, and the edible part is the soft layer between the hard outer bark and the wood core. You can dry
the bark near a fire and make a flour to make a flat bread. The bark can also be boiled and eaten. Of course its not a five star meal, but it could
save your life.
Pine,Spruce,Sweet Birch,Slippery Elm these are just a few. Also, sugar maple trees can be tapped in winter and the sap eaten...it has beneficial
nutrients.
Also, in the winter you can dig up roots and thaw or cook them over a fire...such as of course the dandelion root.
Again, it is vital that you know how to indentify things that grow in the wild before you eat them, as some can be fatal and look nearly the same as
the beneficial plants.
I am still studying and will post more info later...
