Powell Takes on Cheney, Limbaugh in Battle for Republican Party

www.bloomberg.com

May 24 (Bloomberg) -- Former Secretary of State Colin Powell said the Republican Party needs to break free from the grip of conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh and forge a more inclusive identity.

Powell responded to comments by Limbaugh urging him to become a Democrat, and by former Vice President Dick Cheney that he had abandoned the party, declaring his loyalty to the Republicans. Powell said he is trying to boost his party’s electoral prospects.

Good! The GOP has been overrun by ignorance and it's about time someone in the spotlight spoke up about it. Considering the fact that a multi-party system will never happen I really hope that the Republicans start putting up some more electable candidates. There are many people that have become Democrats based ONLY on the fact that Republican "values" are repugnant to them. If the GOP cuts the crap it would force Democrats to stay competitive as well. A win win.

Republicans should really forgive Powell. Even though he endorsed Obama for President, he couldn't help it, he got caught up in the "Cult of Personality", that and the fact he is black. Why else would he do that since McCain shares all the same views as Powell AND he is a Republican to boot?

Republicans should remember that it is perfectly OK to endorse a Democrat, bash Republicans continuously, but still call yourself a Republican.

Could it be that Powell is a Double Agent?

en.wikipedia.org...

"Double agent" is a counterintelligence term for someone who pretends to spy on a target organization on behalf of a controlling organization, but in fact is loyal to the target organization. Double agents may be agents of the target organization who infiltrate the controlling organization, or may be previously loyal agents of the controlling organization who have been captured and turned by the target; the threat of execution is the most common method of turning a captured agent into a double agent. Compare to defector.

I am one that hates most of what the right stands for but disagrees with the left on many things. After the fiasco of the Obmanation I have lost all faith in this bogus political system. I am moving in a couple weeks and when I do change my voter registration I am for the first time ever.....registering as either in independent or as no affiliation.

I never would have predicted that I would loose total faith in our system. I am sure I am not alone in this. Now is the perfect time for a new party to spring to life, question is will anyone take it seriously?

First, O & A rule! (and li'l Jimmy, too!)

When I read your post, I get the feeling you want the Republican party to become more like the Democrat party. Republicans chose McCain, who was as close to a Democrat as you can get and he lost the conservative vote.

I just can't understand why a person would want to be associated with a particular political party, only to try to change it to something different.

Powell has also stated that the American people want more govt. and more taxes. sounds like a duck, walks like a duck, must be a chupacabra!

Just join the Democrats Colin. Maybe Arlen Spectre will have someone to talk to then.

Welcome to my world.

Look, at this point I've pretty well figured that the moment someone is elected president they are taken to a bunker somewhere and shown the Zapruder film. Afterwards they are shown three different angles of the assassination and not another word is spoken about it. Lifted from Bill Burr on the Opie and Anthony show

Is there any other explanation for the current state of affairs. Obama got elected and the country stayed right on the stupid expressway. Powell's problem may be that he is unaware that there are greater forces at work here.

Maybe I'm being overly cynical right now because I can't sleep.

ANYBODY that actually believes there is a Republican Party or a Democrat Party, or a right or left is not very bright...Anybody with a half a brain can see through this world theatrical nonsense..We will never be a civilized advanced society until we understand that the people that are running this world are greedy manipulative serial killing satanic luciferian psychopathic liars performing a scripted theatrical play on the world stage...
I believe absolutely NONE of it! There is NO party except the Illuminati Party..they own everything the media, Hollywood, the military, universities, medical establishments EVERYTHING!
They want you to believe there is a Right and Left so you won't see their working for the same people..It's exactly like watching a WWF wrestling match.
THEY ARE ALL ACTORS that read off of tele-prompters. It's really a pathetic joke to watch! Everything they say and do is a LIE!
PLEASE PEOPLE WILL YOU WAKE UP!!

This is funny to me:

In order to have support for Obama, one either must suffer from "White Guilt" or "racism"

If you vote for a white guy, skin color makes no difference

if you voted for Obama, its because of cult of personality.

I really wish you could see yourself through 20/20 like the rest of us.

I'm all for free speech and hate even the mention of the "Fairness doctrine", but having said that---When Rush Limbaugh is known as the "face" of the party. That's not a political party that's just theatrics. Colin Powell was right on the mark with this. I hate Harry Ried and Nancy Pelosi but at least they are elected officials speaking for the party. Sure you could say that CNN is liberal biased but it's not known as the voice of the democratic party. That role is reserved for the elected democrats not an on air blow hard.

i believe that speaks volumes.....

I know this is going to go against your whole world experience, but there are more than 2 shades when it comes to politics.

Just because someone dislikes a particular person who claims to be a republican, does not make that persona democrat or a republican.

Individuals get to decide their own affiliation - just like their own religion.

Just because you call me a liberal, or call Powell a liberal, does not make it true. In fact, it just makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about, even more so.
