The centre shut on Thursday and Friday, and reopened during Saturday afternoon.

It was evacuated on Thursday after shoppers and staff reported symptoms including minor respiratory problems.

Bullring managers said the centre had been given the all clear but did not release details of what had caused the closures.

In a statement, general manager Tim Walley, said until a review was completed in coming weeks specific details could not be disclosed.

This is a strange story which has been an item worthy only of passing mention late on in radio news broadcasts here.

The Bullring shopping centre is a flagship retail centre in England's second city reopened a few years ago in an inner city regeneration program.

160 stores were shut for two and a half days on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year (Monday being a bank holiday). Staff were told nothing about what was happening and now the crisis has been apparently resolved details of what the cause was are still being witheld.

Ones mind might naturally wonder if its terrorism. Or perhaps a mass innoculation gone wrong. Or careless health and safety.

I would be interested to know if there may have been other incidents like this somewhere else in the world recently, or if anyone here might work there if they know anything.

Very suspicious indeed.

I wonder what could cause that en masse?

Perhaps a problem with the ventilation or maybe something far more sinister. It would be a very good idea for authorities to try and remain in contact with some of the people and see if they develop any unforseen symptoms.
