I remember reading that that same analyst has been predicting that for something like 25 years now. In any event, he was predicting, before the Soviet Union collapsed, that the US would collapse, leaving the Soviet Union the only world power.

Yeah.

Earlier it was said:

Hmm, I think ints an cool idea, but don't think it will come to pass because of the addition of two more liberal leaning states. Like the article said, that would solidify Democrat domination in Congress and The Senate. Maybe if they give the central conservative one additional senetors or something?

If California were to split, that wouldn't necessarily mean the new states would be blue. Much of California is red. It just happens to be that two of the cities--LA and SF--are bluer than a dark blue crayon. So, it would be entirely possible that there would be an addition of Republicans to Congress. According to the Constitution, though, each state only gets two Senators, so the conservative leaning areas wouldn't get an "extra" senator.

I don't think the cost of admitting new states would be too much. It wouldn't be necessary to make every person that was born previously in the new states to get their birth certificates changed. Since July 4th would be when the new states would be admitted to the Union, it could be stipulated before hand that, until that day, they would have to function under Calfornia and from that day onward new paperheads and such would be used. Arranging the elections wouldn't be so hard either, espeically in this modern day. If back in the 1700s territories were able to organize elections for their new governments before statehood, we should be able to today. Imagine how tough it must've been for West Virginia--breaking away from Virginia during the Civil War and all!

I think a quick ultimate history or perhaps projection of the history of the Democracy we are experiencing, is appropriate here.

1. Strong, independent, self reliant people, fight off a tyrannical government and form a democracy.. (Insert favorite democracy type here)

2. Country X is formed. A Constitution is drafted.

3. The citizens of Country X follow in the footsteps of their forefathers for decades. Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people that believe in working hard and providing for themselves and their families.

4. Soon though, a group develops that does not want to work so hard. They begin to see that the Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people are making more than they are. They begin to form and vote in politicians that also think the Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people are too rich.

5. The politicians that are voted in by this new group begin to heavily tax the Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people and pass the money off to the constituents that voted them in office in the form of welfare, SSI and other government handouts.

6. Soon the "New Group" outnumbers the Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people and the Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people do not make enough and some of their businesses go under.

7. The government can not allow this; the "New Group" demands their government money, so they bail out the businesses and invest the tax dollars received from taxing Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people back into the businesses and take ownership.

8. Very soon the tax dollars taken from the Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people dry up and the government must print more money. In walks massive debt and economic collapse.

9. Eventually more and more of the Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people refuse to work for the "New Group" and the newly formed Socialist Government and refuse to continue to support those that wont work. They retire, move their businesses overseas and use other methods to not just survive, but to limit how much they have to support the "New Group" sitting on their duffs.

10. Due to over taxation and economic collapse brought about by the continued support of the "New Group" that put nothing back into the government and the ever diminishing tax dollars from the Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people; the individual states of Country X begin to go bankrupt.

11. Soon the politicians don't know what to do. Placed into power by the "New Group", they must support them and their sedentary, non productive lifestyle or risk being voted out. The Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people are all but gone, mostly operating in other countries or retired watching the country they supported for so long dieing a slow death.

12. The politicians soon are forced to buy even more businesses and soon the government owns the majority of businesses in the country. We have socialism.

13. However, more Strong, Self reliant, Conservative people leave as they are not the kind of people to work for a government. Less and less revenue is coming into the nations coffers.

14. Pretty soon a Strong, independent, self reliant people, fight off a tyrannical, Socialist government and form a democracy.. (Insert favorite democracy type here)

California is simply the first; there will be more.

I can't believe there's so much nonsense in this thread. First, splitting california? Been talked about since before I ever lived there, so at least 30 years. And it'll never happen, anymore than northern idaho will split off with part of Montana and Washington State, or any other such notion.

Secondly, fall into the ocean? I hope you really don't believe that that is a possiblity.

Third, as California's problems originate with the same crisis that everyone is going through, those of you who say that the 'liberals' are getting what they deserve, really ought to understand the situation better.

And what's this crap about liberals not working? If blanket rhetoric is all you have to contribute, please take it elsewhere.
