Dear Lord! I just put up a post about this from The Market Ticker. It's official in my mind that we are going to see riots in California.

People who will not have enough money to shelter themselves and have the normal luxuriates they are used too are going to freak.

As I said in my other thread, Californian ATSers, get ready please. This is going to cause a huge uproar!

California will become a great place to have lived. I predict a mass exodus to other states to get those welfare benefits in addition to riots and all the other mischief that comes with desperation.

There will be a ripple effects and everyone's is going to hit, no matter where you live.

This is awful, especially with all the tent cities and homelessness already going on in California. I would think they would be trying to do more to help these people, not taking away their assistance.

Arnold's not been doing a very good job, has he?

I for some reason don't think this will go down as it states.

Nobody will cut off free money to needy people.. Unless that is what they want to do is cause chaos.. Then again as Timothy Leary stated once Chaos is a natural thing for the brain so maybe that's what we need to get ourselves in check.

Living in the Houston area I know that ripple effect well. When Katrina happened we had mass migration of people from New Orleans into the city of Houston. With them came all the violence and gangs too.

We still have problems with them even today.

I wonder how far this will effect the industries in California, which are dependent on cheap manual labor.

Theres gonna be violence in LA i guarantee it. Its going to get real very quick.

PEOPLE IN LOS ANGELES NEED TO BE READY! That will be the epicenter of violence it always is... BUT, every major city in the state of California should be prepared for a backlash from the poor and working class who will be effected most by this move from the governor.

Remember to flag this guys! Everyone of our friends who lives in California that frequents these boards needs to read this.

I am not trying to be doom and gloom, but being a survivalist... Preparedness is everything. Even if riots do not happen, being prepared is always best.

I figured Californina would be the first state to eliminate the welfare program, considering the state is BROKE!

IMO, it will be a domino effect of such programs, in Cali.

This can get very, very ugly when it passes, riots, looting in the streets.

Scary.

The exodus has been ongoing for a while now, most who are able are relocating to Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.

The cuts are not going to stop with welfare... They were talking about the release of possibly thousands of prisoners, cuts in police, fire and more "essential" services.... California is going down fast... And it seems it will only get worse... Budget deficit is projected at about 21 BILLION, but with every job lost and business that closes there is more revenue lost so it only adds to the problem.

When the deep cuts hit the inner cities and larger metro areas of California things are going to get quite ugly.

They (state government) are going to ultimately blame the California voters who voted down their spending agendas in a very recent special ballot vote.

Expect Michigan to be right on their heels...

With GM & Chy going under it'll get bad fast here also...

My hometown unemployment pretty close to 14% "officially", but...

Gov G is looking to slash all kinds of stuff here to TRY to get under the "mandatory" budget cap...

This is pretty scarey indeed. When I lived in Southern California in the 1980's it had the third largest economy in the world and Mercedes Benz sold more automobiles there than it did in both Germanies combined.

It's incredible in 20 short years how badly wrecked the economy has become.

South Central and South East Los Angeles County are powder kegs in the best of times between poverty, lack of economic opportunity, gang rivalries and violence. Many of the residents live with the constant and pervasive threat of violence and take it for granted that it's just a part of a harsh life.

The large Hispanic populations many of them illegal might choose to reverse migrate but most of the people living in those enclaves are prisoners of economic and social circumstances and ethnic tensions are often simmering right under the surface between Asian shop keepers, the working poor, and natural citizens and illegal immigrants.

Cutting off those welfare checks and food stamps is going to drastically change the equation for all of them.

With recession peaking, and unemployment rising, I feel other states might
fall victim of welfare cutback, and elimination.

Michigan right now has the highest in country, with a whopping 12.9%:

Michigan's unemployment rate last month was the highest in the country once gain. According to a US Labor Department report issued Friday, Michigan lost 38-thousand-400 jobs last month, pushing the state's unemployment rate to 12-point-nine percent. Only California and Texas lost more jobs in April. State officials say the manufacturing and construction sectors felt the brunt of the job losses in Michigan last month.

Here's a link for better view, by state.

There will be riots, people won't be able to afford to move out of the state.

i can't believe the Gov. would even consider doing this. how outrageous that this is even considered. i don't think it will actually happen. there is no way the state house will vote this in.

While I realize the title is straight from the blog article and not the OP of this thread, it's quite misleading and misrepresentative with regards the actuality here.

Schwarzenegger is considering eliminating the Healthy Families program, the CalWorks program and Cal Grants to college students. Other options include reducing spending on mental health services, child welfare services and cutting another $600 million from the state's public universities, she said.

That would seem a far cry from ...

Governor plans to completely eliminate welfare for families

Healthy Families Program

The Healthy Families Program is low cost insurance that provides health, dental and vision coverage to children who do not have insurance today and do not qualify for no-cost Medi-Cal.

CalWork Program

CalWORKs is a welfare program that gives cash aid and services to eligible needy California families. The program serves all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by county welfare departments. If a family has little or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help. Families that apply and qualify for ongoing assistance receive money each month to help pay for housing, food and other necessary expenses

Cal Grants

NEED CASH FOR COLLEGE? YOU COULD GET A CAL GRANT.
Cal Grants are one of the smartest ways to get cash for college. For starters, it's money you don't have to pay back. And secondly, it's guaranteed. If you're a graduating high school senior or recent graduate, meet academic, financial and eligibility requirements and submit two forms by September 2, you are guaranteed a Cal Grant!

Granted his proposals would impact and affect a rather significant portion of those currently receiving state financial aide, be it either monetary or medical, job-related assistance. But to goes so far as to claim he intends to eliminate welfare for the whole of the state would seem little mOar than editorial exaggeration at it's best.

I think this will just set presidense, till we become a socialist country, the government will own everything,so if you work you'll be taxed to the hilt, and welfare recipiants will end up with same amount, this will be the new norm, like in communist country,as far as Arnold goes,he is doing the job he was hired to do,hard to run a buisness in the red,Obama should take some lessons from him,Calif is no different then any other states just it had more going for it,so get ready where ever you live, this is the feces hitting the recirculating blade

Bhadhidar Predicts:

A famous motto reads "Bring Me Men to Match My Mountains!". The "Mountains" of economic turmoil our society now face cries for Leaders of vision; equal to the Task set before Them.

Therefore, I Predict, that if such a Leader can be found to address this crisis, that person shall, eventually, be chosen to . not just one damaged State, but the Nation as well.

And possibly, ultimately, The World.
