I thought the money was supposed to help the people and the economy! It figures that this money is going only to things that aren't necessary. This is in my opinion a wasteful choice to use that money on.

Rick Perry and all of these Republicans that have taken over this once great state require to much expensive pampering.... The Governors Mansion burned while he was living there, why didn't he see to it that it had adequate insurance coverage.... Texans need to quit electing irresponsible rich boys into political office.

A more sensible use of the money would have been to pay for the insulation lower - middle income house holds . Such a scheme wouldn't require continues US federal government funding and would have the benefit of reducing peoples heating/cooling bills as well as a healthy population .

Cheers xpert11 .

Yeesh. *shaking head* Sometimes I am embarassed to be living in Texas.

I agree with xpert11, though. If they would have made a fund for the residing, insulating, and re-roofing of low to middle class homes in Texas, that would have been a hell of a boon. Instead, they are bouncing around some half hearted solar legislation.

The House State Affairs committee approved SB 541 today on a vote of 9-5. SB 541 (Kirk Watson) requires the development of 1500 megawatts of solar, geothermal and biomass by 2020. Rep. David Farabee is carrying the bill on the House.

But fixing up the governor's mansion is creating jobs! That's the whole point of the stimulus package isn't it?

Wait wait. I thought Gov. Perry decided to refuse the stimulus money in the first place? So he has instead decided to not only take it but then use it a completely tone deaf fashion? Uncredible. Ridonkulous.

Obs out

Maybe the governor's mansion needs a new underground bunker.

Yes yes yes, it creating jobs. But I would think that 10 million space bucks could be put to better use than rebuilding a mansion. (I expect you were being sarcastic to some degree, but still...lol)

I guess I am just old school. You use emergancy money to make long term strategic investments and surplus money to fix up mansions and buy martini's for your government provided escorts.

Who ever is awarded this kind of contract will surely have made large contributions to the state and national Republican campaigns. I imagine that there will be kick back money involved as well.... It looks like it is going to be Texas style business as usual in Austin.
