this guy got it real bad. i can see the reason why, he did almost hit one of theirs but i don't believe this is justified. Guy could have had a broken neck.

Glad they were fired; they do something like this to someone who's clearly unconscious I'd hate to see what they do to someone who asks why he or she is being arrested.

Edit: And one could argue all day long about the attempted murder charge, it would appear more likely that he was trying to dodge the car and the spike strip, which could be deployed in a much more effective manner.

Good lord! The guy was down and out! No need for this. I can see why the police were stoked, but...............Hell, they didn't know, they might have been beating a corpse. They might have killed the guy. Leave it to the judge and jury to punish the criminals. Heck, he might have even been suffering from a low blood sugar event that diabetics can suffer through and do things that they don't even realize they are doing.

to these cops.

Fired is the least of their worries. There will and should be criminal charges here. Their actions will, also, deny justice being served in the case of their fellow officer being assaulted by the driver, when he tried to run him over. Stupid. By assaulting a person who, quite possibly had just sustained life threatening injuries, these guys have equaled his offense.

They are the ones who give the rest a bad name and bring unnecessary grief on those trying to, honestly and justly, serve the public.

They shouldn't have been fired. The guy did almost hit a cop. They were fired up and pissed off, and that's understandable.

What they needed was a suspension and anger management course to help them settle their emotions before handling this type of situation again.

I say they were victims of temporary insanity. Criminals get by with that defense all the time.

well they are criminals

maybe they should use that defense?

ya but i dont really see any major internal investigations or anything

all i see is a few guys getting fired when a video tape leaks out

maybe if the departments started pro-actively getting rid of these barbarians than the police would be a respectable organization again like it is suppose to be!

Well, I certainly hope that you never loose your cool at your job when someone almost runs over your friend.

Not to mention the fact that this guy would never have had this problem if he would have stopped running in the first place.

Stop holding the police to unfair standards. Yes, they acted improperly. They also shouldn't be over punished just because they are all mighty police officers. They are people too, and until you are in that situation, you have no right to judge.

You can check my past posts regarding the police and you will see that I stand up for them 100%.

But these fellows need some jail time. There isn't an excuse in the world that would justify whats in that video.

As fast as that guy was going, and as hard as he tried to kill that cop, he should have his ass beat every day for the next decade.

This is exactly why I could NEVER be a cop.

I'd get fired or worse, probably the first day.

There is a problem with high speed pursuits and the adrenaline rush the officers get. It can result in exactly what happened if the officer is not trained and ready to recognize the effect of the adrenaline. I am not by any means defending their action. However, I feel they should have to undergo pursuit training again and undergo a no pay suspension for a month or so. They lost all the years of law enforcement in 11 seconds.

Yup, so much for due process or fair trials. just turn the cops loose and let the chips fall where they may. The above is the most retarded thing I have read in a long long time.

The police, are TRAINED to not act this way. They are entrusted with the authority to "apprehend" the SUSPECT, not dole out punishment. This is why there is a court system, and a judge who has the responsibility to actually judge the circumstances.

If these police officers, "lost it" and vented their anger on this guy, they should not be police officers nor should they be free. This is a criminal act, the beating of an unconscious person and these police officers who have reneged on their responsibilities should be tried for their crimes.

The fact that the officer put himself in harms way by deploying the spike strip in the manner that he did, borders on natural selection. Now, I'm not excusing the driver of their part in the whole ordeal, he should also have a chance to express why he acted in the manner he did, and face the consequences that the COURT hands out. Not a bunch of king sh** cops.

The standards the police are held to MUST be a higher standard than that of the citizen. They may be human like everyone else, but they have been trained, supported and entrusted to act responsibly in these circumstances. It is because they have accepted being held to a higher standard that they bear a greater responsibility for their actions. ANY cop that acts the way portrayed in the video, as well as ANY cop that protects or shields their fellow officer of this kind of wrong doing should be held equally accountable.

The next time someone "Risks your life" in traffic, by cutting you off, or almost running you down because their talking on their cell or whatever, take the law into your own hands and freak out, beat them unconscious, and then beat them some more. Then when the police arrive and offer you some of their "street justice", regardless of your justified reasoning, you too can offer them your support and tell the judge that it was your life almost at risk, I'm sure he'll see it your way.

Thanks for reading.

I can't find the words to describe how low I hold you in esteem right now. You either didn't understand my post, or you chose to ignore the pertinent points completely. I never said I am for vigilante justice, or punishment without due process.

I never said I agreed with the cops actions, or that they should behave that way in the future. I never said any other cop should shield them from their fate.

Those are all YOUR talking points and have nothing to do with what I said. Take your fallacious argument and get bent.

All I'm saying is that the police action is understandable. It's not ACCEPTABLE, but it is UNDERSTANDABLE due to the circumstances. Lots of people have fallen into this trap before, and lots more will afterward. I seriously doubt any of them hold no regret for their actions.

Also, no amount of training, or classes can completely curb this type of behavior. ANY officer could crack at ANY time, (just like your average citizen) and do something of this caliber.

They do not deserve to be fired from a possibly otherwise impeccable career of service due to one lapse of judgment. Desk jobs? Yes. Fired? Not unless this was a pattern of behavior that can be traced. And even at that point, it's not 100% the fault of the officers alone. The dumbass that kept them employed with a traceable pattern of abuse holds culpability for this as well.

Do me a favor and don't respond to any more of my posts, your ignorance saps my strength.

I just saw that video.
WOW - the way that guys body flopped out of the vehicle was AMAZING.
I’ve done my share of clean up after an accident but never seen one like that where the body is ejected.
Why in God’s name the officers jumped on him and beat him blue when he wasn’t even conscious - well - pack mentality is all I can think.
But it deserves a firing and criminal charges pressed in this humble paramedics opinion.
Freaks.

Your post was quite specific in that you excused the police actions as "Understandable". I merely stated why this was totally retarded. The police training SPECIFICALLY deals with situations like, "How to lay a spike belt (stop sticks)" and to do so in a manner that wont get yourself or bystanders killed.

I will reply to any post I deem idiotic or just so slanted that it begs for rebuttal. Your love for the jack booted Nazi like actions of the police is exactly why this world is going down the tubes.

Enjoy your new world order.

I was gonna let this go, but you've pissed me off... almost a week and a half later. That takes true idiocy. You sir are a moron, and worse, a moron who blows off at the mouth trying to justify your point in any way possible. Have you ever trained as a police officer? Have you ever been a police officer? Have you ever had your fellow officers life put on the line, been amped up on adrenaline and made a bad choice?

I'm quite certain that the answer to all of these questions is a resounding "NO".

I have no love for a nazi state, I'm a freedom loving patriot and you lumping me in with that kind of garbage is offensive, crude, and completely without base. Get your head out of your ass and just maybe you'll smell something better than what you ate yesterday.

I take back what I had previously said. Reply to ALL my posts. I will fight you with every last ounce patience I have.

I invite you to u2u me, so that I may give you my email address, as the rest of what I have to say to you would DEFINITELY violate the T&C here at ATS.

Enjoy Canadia eh?
