CCTV only effective at cutting car crime

www.telegraph.co.uk

An analysis of 44 research studies was carried out by the Campbell Collaboration, a review body, which found that while cameras have a modest impact on crime levels, they are at their most effective in reducing car crime in car parks, especially when used alongside improved lighting and the introduction of security guards.

Very interesting news that keeps comming back from time to time.
One would think that all these cameras scanning the cities would have a significant effect on crime rates but research shows time after time that these systems do not live up to their expectations.

The research shows that they are mainly effective in reducing car crime in car parks in combination with other improvements like more lighting.

Real time monitored cameras seem to be most ineffective.

These systems cost an increddible amount of money to install, man and maintain.
Are these costs justified?

An interesting and funny video.
This video might show how the police shows up in minutes but research shows that this is not always the way it goes.

The CCTV systems are at the heart of the Big Brother world but they are proven to be less effective in stopping and solving crimes than most would think.

When a person commits a crime he either doesnt expect to be caught, doesnt care if he's caught or it's a crime of passion lacking all forethought. No laws will ever stop or prevent any crimes. The law does not and cannot protect you from crime. The only reason the CCTV seems to have altered car thefts/break-ins is that the cameras change the variables for those criminals who do not expect to be caught.

Until every human being has 24 hour coverage by their own police force nothing will ever prevent any crime against them save their own ability/willingness to do what is necessary to protect themselves.

In prison systems they have 24 hour coverage of the prisoners with their own police force.
But even there crimes are still commited.
