It is bcause of a hearing deficit called tinnitus.

Tinnitus causes deafness and ringing or humming in the ears.

I hear a high pitched hissing noise most of the time, probably form hearing damage though - LOL. Here's a case where 'the hum', was solved.

I believe the Mercury we have been forced to integrate into our system is responsible. Satellites - tv - radio waves... direct link!

I just meditated and got this answer. Claro

Mercury in our tooth fillings - vaccines and chem trails - we are being harnessed as batteries, mercury probably likes to store in the brain, many many will go crazy...This is the real answer.

This condition is reversible but only if the waves stop completely and special detox program to really eliminate the incompatible metal.

I think there's a difference from the "buzz" being internal and external.
I work with a man who is in one of the group therapy sessions I run and he claims that when he sits outside in his yard watching planet "x" for 10 hours out of the day he can hear it "humming" or "buzzing" his wife has come in and said there is a mystery sound but she feels it's coming from something else, I'm going to go over and check it out when I get a chance.
I myself have been plagued with the "humming" in the ears for the past year, but recently, something else strange has started to happening, I hear a SQUIRTING in my head and water drops and can actually feel liquid moving about under my skin.(All my tests for CSF have come back fine, no blood clots either)The doctors can not put a name to it, I am really sick right now though and my body is at turmoil with it's self and so on, but it seems to be separate from my other medical problems. I actually have all the symptoms of something called
www.elcollie.com...
Which I don't know if I believe in the possibility in the subject in said link above, but I would warn people to be a little more cautious when it comes to the new meditation cds and binary wave programs that are out there because in the research that I've done it seems to be having a large effect on some people and causing these "sounds" and sensations.
I myself think I can attribute the ringing and hum and the electricity in my body to the havoc my nervous system is in right now with my spinal cord being tetherd, but no one else can really explain the "dripping" "squirting" and "popping" sounds and feelings in my entire body and head also when I sit close enough to someone THEY CAN HEAR it meaning that it's something physical and not a trick of my inner audio canal or nerves, and there's tons of people who are reporting this along with the humming and buzzing.
but as I said I think there's a difference in the external hum and inner hum, I don't feel they are connected, yet.
The external hum I think is coming from something in nature or the earth possibly an electric type charge possibly to do with the magnetic field or possibly under ground water.
It'd be really nice to see a list of all the locations people are reporting this from and then check for fault lines, check the EMF in the areas, then see if there are any water ways or anything under the areas.
If it is something to do with the EMF then I'd say that possibly the external and internal sounds could be linked. I also feel that with the changes earth is going through that this could be having an impact on the body especially in the small cavities in our bodies like the audio canal and sinuses as they are supper sensitive to pressure and if there is an increase of pressure or decrease of pressure in the earths atmosphere one of the big signs of that is that people will feel as if they are on an air plane and have their ears popping and pressure in the frontal lobe. Right now there isn't enough info, there needs to be exact locations, weather anomalies recorded, EMF's, pressure calculations and a bunch of other things with the atmosphere and so on that I have no clue about. Then once all those test and some substantial data is collected the links can be made and see if it is something earth bound, space bound, or man made. For right now though, I don't think the eternal humming can be linked to the internal sounds people are having, the people who have the internal sounds should get CT's MRI's and hearing test done, then some treatments for tinnitus and see how they feel.
There are changes going on this world, and I think most of us can honestly feel it and sense it, but right now there's just not enough data to figure out this mystery but it feels to me and some others I know as if something is building up slowly. I'm really sorry if this makes no sense, it's been hard to articulate my thoughts lately, so again I am sorry.

I experienced this in the late 70's/early 80's growing up in Cheshire , which is in the Northwest UK.

The hum at that time was particularly low level, and over one summer - I forget which year exactly - regularly kept people awake, and was the subject of a whole load of coverage in the local media.

I have experienced the buzzing too, always before I fall asleep, no matter where that may be. Interestingly enough its a kind of vibration that forms that "buzzing", my body vibrates on a high frequency and in some occasion the whole bed and even the room starts vibrating. I think there are many reasons to explain this, in my case its closely related to the beginning of a lucid dream or an Out of Body Experience.
But I think in most cases it is unrelated to such experiences, there are many causes for sure.

I was just going to post a thread similar to this about the Tavistock institute in London. But more on the downgrading of human conciousness techniques. I recommend you watch this video.

They use radio waves from tvs etc to mind control the masses using the humming sound you here.

The Saga of the Hum

The following text has been compiled from media reports, emails, letters and personal contact with many Hum sufferers. The facts obtained are consistent with the description and explanation of the Hum expressed on this web site. It is somewhat ironic that the one possession that people value most, their own home, should indirectly be the cause of their suffering and illness.

The first report of mass complaints came in the mid 1960's it covered all parts of the UK but a large number was concentrated in the Bristol area where it attained world wide reputation as the Bristol Hum. A group of Hum sufferers organised a committee and travelled to London University where an investigation into the phenomena was being carried out. The group travelled to the Department of Physics Chelsea College to meet the team of investigators. The group was tested individually and it was established that the Hum frequency 36 Hz they were also instructed on how to construct an aluminium helmet to be placed over the head when the Hum was in operation.

On their return to Bristol the group contacted the local authority and Bristol Member of Parliament Arthur Palmer and persuaded them to investigate the matter. Arthur Palmer and the investigating team finally claimed to have traced the source and stopped the Hum, however, the authority refused to reveal the source saying "we have stopped it, be satisfied with that"

This turned out to be a false claim and by the mid 1970's complaints were being received by the Environmental Health Officers in every town and city in the UK. Two national Sunday newspapers, the News of the World and the Sunday Mirror asked their readers "can you hear the Hum and over 2000 people replied.

The intensity of the Hum and the number of complaints continued to rise and in 1988 the UK government acknowledged a problem and commissioned the University of Salford to collate the complaints. In 1992 the Department of the Environment paid the Building Research Establishment £50,000 to look at the problem and a report by Mr J W Sargent was published in 1994. Although at the time it was known that 1000's of people in the UK were suffering from the Hum, the BRE only investigated 41 cases and of these only 6 could be traced to a noise, the remainder were classed as not conclusive or negative measurement.
The report failed completely to provide an explanation for the Hum and could only advise health officers how to deal with the hostility of the Hum sufferers.

In May 2003 the UK Department for Environment published a report on low frequency noise by Dr Geoff Leventhall and despite the fact that the Hum had by now a history of over 40 years and was known to effect many 1000's the report devoted a mere three pages to the subject. No explanation was given as to the cause, and the text, what there was of it, appears to have been cobbled together from media reports. Yet another government whitewash.

The history of the Hum in the USA has been more difficult to trace, the first media reported case was of a Mr. Walter Deposki of Eugene Oregon in 1976 but around 1992 there was a noticeable increase publicity especially in the town on Taos New Mexico where it became known as the Taos Hum.

As a result of this publicity and complaints, US Representative Bill Richardson called for an investigation and with government funding a team of investigators from the University of New Mexico was formed, the team also included scientists from the Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories and the Phillips Air Force Laboratory.

The investigation began in April 1993 but by March 1994 no evidence had been found as the cause of the Hum and shortly afterwards government funding was withdrawn and the investigating team disbanded.

This followed a similar sequence of events to UK investigations, first the public protests followed by a show of concern from the authorities with an investigation and a promise that "something will be done". There followed a short lived investigation with negative results and then the removal of the funding.

German Hum sufferers faired even worse, an appeal to the Petitions Committee of the German Bundestag in 2004 was completely rejected and Hum sufferers were advised to seek medical help.

One of the main peculiarities of the Hum, is that although a few young people hear it most are aged 50+ which means a continuous stream of people hearing it for the first time, also, there is by nature, an equal number of people who pass on, most of the original Bristol Hum protestors are by now dead.

This fact is a great advantage to the authorities, for as the percentage of Hum sufferers appears to be constant, the number of protestors is also constant. As each sufferer comes on stream, they all go through the same procedure, first looking for a noise, then contacting the local authorities and the media, eventually they reach the government who have a prepared series of stock answers.

This procedure takes on average between 5 to 10 years by which time the protestor is either dead or completely exhausted.

WoW, there is a nice big red dot on my area and this is still happening - but the technology(paid for by its victims) is well advanced even more dangerous. Nice find.

I don't know if this will contribute to the conversation in any meaningful way but - here goes!

Has anyone heard of a US Army device where a low level hum is generated and directed at a particular location. People experiencing the hum can't tell where it's coming from and it drives them nuts - robbing them of sleep and stuff like that. It's been claimed it was designed to use on enemy troop concentrations to wear them down before an attack - I guess to destroy their morale. The last comment made to me by the person telling me about this technology was "Imagine if that was put on a satellite or something and directed at a city".

Yes. Imagine that...

I'm in the same boat with the rest of you. The buzzing started in the late 60's for me.

In order to be able to go to sleep I have to have another sound in the room.

Most any sound will do. I usually use music or nature sounds.

It gets very annoying to have the constant sound in my ears.

I've been to specialist and so far have found nothing wrong with my ears.

But I still have this damnable buzzing.

Out of curiosity was it not CONCORD that got the blame for the mysterious humming back in the 60's & 70's? I remember there was alot of talk of sonic boom's and stuff like that. What is a sonic boom? Doe's anyone know? Has anyone heard it? I never have and i live in the south east of England, right in the flight path. I know poor old Concord is now defunct, but i still hear the humming. So it can't be that, can it?

I know this is not very ATS but...

Tinnitus:is the perception of sound within the human ear in the absence of corresponding external sound.
Tinnitus can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head. It is usually described as a ringing noise, but in some patients it takes the form of a high pitched whining, buzzing, hissing, screaming, humming, or whistling sound, or as ticking, clicking, roaring, "crickets" or "tree frogs" or "locusts", tunes, songs, or beeping.[3] It has also been described as a "wooshing" sound, as of wind or waves.[4] Tinnitus can be intermittent or it can be continuous. In the latter case, this "phantom" sound can create great distress in the sufferer.
Tinnitus is not itself a disease but a symptom resulting from a range of underlying causes. Causes include ear infections, foreign objects or wax in the ear, nose allergies that prevent (or induce) fluid drain and cause wax build-up, and injury from loud noises. Tinnitus is also a side-effect of some oral medications, such as aspirin, and may also result from an abnormally low level of serotonin activity. It is also a classical side effect of Quinidine, a Class IA anti-arrhythmic. In many cases, however, no underlying physical cause can be identified.
The sound perceived may range from a quiet background noise to one that can be heard even over loud external sounds. The term "tinnitus" usually refers to more severe cases. Heller and Bergman (1953) conducted a study of 80 tinnitus-free university students placed in an anechoic chamber and found that 93% reported hearing a buzzing, pulsing or whistling sound. Cohort studies have demonstrated that damage to hearing (among other health effects) from unnatural levels of noise exposure is very widespread in industrialized countries.[5]
Because tinnitus is often defined as a subjective phenomenon, it is difficult to measure using objective tests, such as by comparison with noise of known frequency and intensity, as in an audiometric test. The condition is often rated clinically on a simple scale from "slight" to "catastrophic" according to the practical difficulties it imposes, such as interference with sleep, quiet activities, and normal daily activities.[6] For research purposes, the more elaborate Tinnitus Handicap Inventory is often used.[1][7]

Interesting.

I think this explanation is almost pure BS:

...we each have an internal volume control that helps us amplify quiet sounds in times of threat, danger or intense concentration.

...This is a mechanism we all rely on at moments of pressure or stress when we want our senses on full alert.

According to Dr Baguley, the problem comes when an individual fixes on a possibly innocuous background sound, and this act of concentration then triggers the body's "internal gain", boosting the volume.

1. Any vascular problem, and many diseases, can result in amplified hearing (as well as the converse, hearing loss). Such a 'symptom' should ALWAYS be checked out medically.

Wonder why the BBC didn't make that qualification? ...Is it because vascular disease is epidemic and the powers-that-be don't want everyone to know?

2. Noise pollution is a HUGE problem in our world. Of course people with sensitive hearing are affected. Duh.

...But. Go ahead. Blame the victims. Protect profits by recommending psychological testing and treatment.
