A woman accused of the starvation murder of her seven-year-old daughter allegedly did not try to resuscitate the child because ants were crawling from her mouth, a NSW jury has been told.

The NSW Supreme Court, sitting at East Maitland, was told the seven-year-old girl, found dead at her Hawks Nest home on November 3, 2007, had the worst malnutrition one specialist had ever seen.

A post-mortem examination showed the child to be 106cm tall and weighing just 9kg at death, the court was told.

The Australian Institute Health and Welfare's, Child Protection Australia report showed 58,000 cases of child abuse for '06-07'

Australia has had a horrific history with child abuse and it appears to be getting worse. its horrendously ugly when these story come out.
They seem to go into too much detail.

Wow, this is pretty low. I am really upset by the way people are treating children these days!

its such a cliche'.
as a parent i understand you don't tell other people how to raise their kids. it drives me insane others tell me.

but....

and i say.... but, when there are no measures to monitor the welfare of each and every child, people do this.

how do these people even know how to make babies let alone raise them?

WHat if she had a disease and was eaten from the inside out?

Why would she have black vomit and bull ants coming out of her mouth right after she died?

Words fail me when I read stories like this.

WTF. 19 pounds/9kgs. WTF.

I hope whoever is responsible, including the health professionals and social services who failed her, is suitably punished. Disgusting.

What a horrific story. I couldn't help but get mental images of what the poor girl may have looked like. Vomiting black blood and bull ants? That must have taken months, if not years, of malnutrition and neglect. Saddening.

Jesus, that is a outrage? 9kg?

My god. I have a little girl myself, I honestly don't understand how anyone could do this to another human, let alone their own flesh and blood. My child is my world and it breaks my heart when she even just falls down and gets a scrap. I couldn't imagine anyone being that sadistic heartless and uncaring to starve to death their own child..
Things like this really make me sad/sick/angry. To say she was smiling and bubbly in the day before? Sickening... What kind of people are these? Can't tell me they didn't notice she was a skeleton, at 20 pounds she had to of been, and that something was terribly wrong....
They have older children, I wonder if they are in good health. Either way, the others being healthy or not, just makes the story more horrible. If they were being fed, that makes it terrible for the youngest to suffer while the others were treated better, but if they were all being starved.... its just sad no matter how you look at it

These people had no intention of resuscitating this young child.
She must have been locked away for sometime.

when he had asked the dead girl's older sister how she was coping, she replied: "I'm fine. I had a cry. I'm over it now."

you can feel love in that family....
