It has been confirmed that rapper "Dolla," also known as Roderick Anthony Burton II has been killed in a shooting at the Beverly Center shopping mall.

According to Burton's publicist Sue Vannasing, he was shot in the head and killed this afternoon by an assailant at the Beverly Center. The victim's identity has yet to be officially confirmed by the LA County coroner's office.

Burton is best known for his work on the soundtrack for the 2006 dance film "Step Up" and for the two singles released with the singer Akon: "Like This" and "She So Fine."

I am not exactly a rap fan, but target of the shooter was perhaps Dolla. Professional rivalry may be the reason or even mugging and gang war.

I have lived long in NJ and have known a couple of aspiring rappers, usually they are into weird stuff and make trouble for themselves.

My question is why didn't he have bodyguards, and was he perceiving any threat?

Maybe they view bodyguards as a sign of weakness? This has happened to Gangster Rappers since Dre's little brother died in what I believe to be the city of Compton.

Not much of a Rap fan myself but I let some songs slide if they sound good.

Why do articles like this have to tell us his profession? I can't think of many other shootings where the victims professions are listed.

It would make sense to me if this guy was actually famous. Instead it comes off as the media trying to shove a stereotype down our throats.
