The following clip from a very popular American TV series in the 1960's, The Beverly Hillbillies, shows Granny 'jumping to conclusions' about what is for her, anyway, a UFO.

Do you think that in general people are really like this ?

That is to say, jumping to wrong conclusions about things which lie outside their realm of experience ?

Could this be why we have so many problems in our world today ?

What say you ?

Perhaps that is how it is.

I think there are 11 good reasons at least that the world is the way it is.

1. Money

2. We can never agree on anything

3. We as a general public feel entitled

4. People are always smarter than you give them credit for.

5. We fear what we do not understand

6. We shun what we do not understand (the biggest setback in science in my opinion)

7. We feel that the Earth is our own personal playground

8. We are power hungry

9. We are overly judgmental of everyone except ourselves

10. We are indifferent. (sure we may talk about it but what have you done today to fight the problems in the world?)

11. We are desensitized to violence among other things due to the media and technology.

Thanks for the detailed comment. I pretty much agree with all your points, especially this one -

2. We can never agree on anything

Well, the judgment of human beings is very poor. We tend to come to conclusions via first impressions. I can't tell you how many times I have been proven to be wrong because I used this method of "discernment."

That was mentioned in example 4.

4. People are always smarter than you give them credit for.

I see your point but even at that time, that stuff was for comic effect. I mean cmon it's pretty funny. I doubt that little ol lady is like that outside the show, and even so, I'm sure there are many things she can do that you can not.
