Pakistan Rapidly Adding Nuclear Arms, Says US

www.nytimes.com

WASHINGTON — Members of Congress have been told in confidential briefings that Pakistan is rapidly adding to its nuclear arsenal even while racked by insurgency, raising questions on Capitol Hill about whether billions of dollars in proposed military aid might be diverted to Pakistan’s nuclear program.

So lets get this right, Pakistan is supposed to be fighting for it's life with large swathes of the country occupied by the Taliban and the Pakistani ISI actively supporting the Taliban, and now they are using money provided by the US to expand their current stockpiles of nukes even though this money was supposed to be used to secure the existing nukes and stop them from falling into the hands of extremist's. So given that the US obviously had worries about the existing security arrangements that were in place just what will they be doing to secure these stockpiles? or will the ISI be passing them over to the Taliban as well?

No, The US was giving them YOUR money while knowing that Pakistan was using it to expand their status as a 'threat' which extremists could later take control of.

And here where do these extremists come from?
Could it be people who were angry over the U.S. putting Musarraf into power.
During the presidential elections Giuliani said "now we have to figure out who next to put into power in Pakistan".

Is the financing of Pakistan's nuke stockpile not the only source of U.S. subsidy but also blowback terroism?

Ya they had worries. Them knowing about Pakistan using their money for nukes and financing an attack on India but them continuing to finance them is what you define as a "worry"?

Come on man
You are just commenting on the facade, meaning what they portray to you.

Pakistan has a long-standing fear of India. Hence the whole nuclear thing to begin with. Given the instability in their country, Paksitan is fearful that India could use this weakness as an opportunity to 'pounce'. As stupid as it may be, Pakistan is arming itself against that eventuality. The truth is, they are more fearful of India than they are of the hordes of Taliban ransacking their country.

Pakistan denies it is expanding nuclear arsenal

Pakistan denied Monday it was expanding its nuclear arsenal, a week after the top U.S. military officer said there was evidence it was doing so.

Perhaps this is the reason that things have stirred up in Pakistan . The U.S has stated a few interesting things .

1. April 30 Pakistan was given a 2 week period to start dealing with the "terrorists "
2. The U.S has plans to " secure " Pakistanis nuclear weapons if things go bad for the Pakistani government during this " war " that Pakistan now finds its self fighting

Could this be a tailor made fight designed to get at there nukes ?

Ah who know , one thing is for sure though , we will find out in time .

I think you and the person you replied to have both misunderstood what was said in the quote from the article.

It does not say that aid to Pakistan has been diverted to production of nuclear weapons, it says simply that based on evidence suggesting Pakistan is continuing nuclear weapon production, that US financial aid to Pakistan might be diverted to nuclear weapon production.
