In Long Beach ---- a big jolt and then some rolling. Scared the **** out of me!! No damage to be seen around here and the lights are all on. Sitting here hoping for no aftershocks!

There was a 3.1 aftershock but I didn't feel that. Anyone feel the aftershock?

It appears that the recent swarm activity in the kodiak region of Alaska may be reverberating the plates a bit.

There was a couple of aftershocks as well after that 5.0, a 2.5 and 3.1 were registered a short bit later.

I am closer than you, however, i did not feel anything.

I mean the initial or after shock.

I didn't feel the after shock either, but the first one rattled all my windows.

I'm about 5 miles from the epicenter and HECK YES we felt it!
My daughters felt the aftershocks; I didn't because I was running around reiterating the "triangle of life."

A 5.0 isn't usually that "bad" in an area like Los Angeles, however, there are reports of things falling from shelves and hitting people. What can be scary for some people is not knowing when the shaking when stop and how high the intensity will go. Some of us are very, very afraid of quakes while some other just keep watching tv and shrug it off.

In California a 5.0 isn't bad due to the strict building codes, so most structures will be perfectly fine.

In other places a 5.0 will bring down buildings - it really depends on what type of building codes are enforced.

lol, I can see it now. Like that guy that just calmly whistles while walking down the street when all the bombs/missiles/machine gun fire from world war 3 is going on all around him.

LOL - well welcome to L.A.! They freak me out pretty badly too! But before you run out the door next time, Google "triangle of life" for updated info on helping to survive large earthquakes.

Thanks for reminding me about Triangle of Life. I heard about it on TV a few months ago and how this method is used for survival in a major earthquake.

Im between long beach and LA and we sure felt it. We live on the 2nd floor. This earthquake just hit so strong, usually we hear the rumble then the shake. I just dont like the bam earthquakes lol. Some stuff fell but nothing major. But it was funny was just telling my fiance who is back east I had my "earthquake" feeling haha.

A 5.0 is about like having 10 military choppers floating over your house but without all the sound. It shakes a bit, you get a dizzy sensation, stuff vibrates maybe a picture falls etc.
