Obama names NYC health chief to head CDC

President Obama has chosen Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, New York City's health commissioner, to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the White House said Friday...

Frieden has been commissioner of the New York City Health Department, one of the nation's largest public health agencies, since January 2002. He worked for the CDC from 1990 to 2002.

No one posted an article on this yet, it's only been mentioned. I don't know if anyone else thought this was weird. My guess is that Frieden has experience preparing medically for bioterror attacks in NYC, and Obama wants him to bring this experience to the CDC. Any medical problem in NYC may spread like wildfire. I think that he is a good choice for the job.

But I'm wondering if there is something else involved. Especially the fact that Swine Flu has had such an impact on NYC already. Is that the reason?
