Here's an image taken from a more recent dig that is described by one of the field workers as having a buffed or grooved line crossing the face of several stones, possibly indication some sort of shaping after the stones were in place:



Here is an excellent link describing stone setting methods used by the Inca, relying especially on scribing a stone to fit the adjoining stones in a wall. No "sliding back and forth" to wear it into place is mentioned.

I still think they used some kind of advanced alien lazer cutter.To lift the heavy stones they used a gravitor.

Well unlike some around here who theorize about them being a natural formation do not realize all those pictures are tiny parts of a much larger man made complex.

What saddens me is that we can't appreciate the magnificence of some of their major constructions as our Spanish friends partially demolished fortifications to scavenge the masonry for building churches and whatnot
