That's the title of the article - not my title.
1,225,980 ... and that's just for April!
Story Here from Ammoland
NEWTOWN, Conn. – The upward trend in firearms sales continued in April, marking the sixth consecutive month of significant increases.
Data released by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reported 1,225,980 checks in April 2009. This figure is a 30.3
percent increase from the 940,961 reported in April 2008.
FBI background checks are required under federal law for all individuals purchasing either new or used firearms from federally licensed retailers. The
checks serve as a gauge of actual sales but do not reflect the actual number of firearms sold, since, following a background check, a customer may
decide not to purchase a firearm or may purchase more than one firearm.
The 1,225,980 number may not be accurate. People get the background checks and may not buy a gun ... or they may buy more than one gun. But that's
the estimate anyways. 1,225,980 bought by those that follow the background check laws.
No wonder there is an ammo shortage!
Wonder what is driving law abiding Americans to use their second amendment rights to purchase arms? Geee .... hmmm ..... it's not hard to guess
why, is it?

of course, anyone who owns or wants to own a gun is crazy... that makes sense.
not.
i suppose wanting to own guns is racist as well?
well, why not?
right out of the alinsky handbook, eh?
we have a right to arm ourselves, against attackers, criminals and most especially, rogue governments.

Still low on ammo in the Denver area from every source.
Gun store shelves are not what you would call "bare" but they have not been able to keep AKs, ARs and other Mil style weapons in stock.
In this area at least, this article holds true.

Thats just over the top isn't it. The military industrial complex must be happy, lol.
How many of those gun owners would actually use those things in real life situations, like katrina. We saw in katrina people will do nothing to the
ptb, and the government can just take there weapons.
If you guys have brought all those things,a nd have no real world expectation of ever using them, why did you buy all those guns?

No wonder ammo is so scarce. I'm having problems finding certain types of .22 rounds in my local store.
While I love the fact that so many people are exercising there 2nd ammendment rights, I'd like to see just as many people working towards exercising
there 1st ammendment rights by starting new media sources not tied into the MSM.

 Uh ... no.
More LAW ABIDING AMERICANS can now protect themselves from the criminals who are running around with illegal guns and nefarious plans to use
them.
And more LAW ABIDING AMERICANS are exercising their second amendments rights which scares the hell out of the NWO folks who want to destroy our
Constitution.

"Wonder what is driving law abiding Americans to use their second amendment rights to purchase arms?"
The 2nd amendment is the only thing that guarantees the other 26 amendments. That's why nanny-state liberals despise it so. They see the US
Constitution as nothing more than an impediment to their rightful control of US citizens lives.
As for lawful purchasers of handguns being "crazy", just the opposite is true. An individual with a history of mental illness cannot legally
purchase a firearm. This is obviously the reason why no liberals purchase firearms.

Seeing as you're not living in the United States, I'm guessing that you probably don't have a very good understanding of how firearms tie into our
culture. It has a lot less to do with the military-industrial complex or violence in media than you would think.
The vast majority of firearms here in the US are owned by law abiding citizens, and out of those legally owned firearms the amount used in crimes is
extremely small. In our culture guns are essentially viewed as tools. Much like you would use a wrench for tightening a bolt, a firearm is used for
the task of defending oneself or providing a source of food.
It's in our culture that we don't trust our government. Hence we don't trust the police to get there in time. No matter how good the police are
their response time is always measured in minutes. Sadly that's just not good enough if you're about to be a victim, in which the amount of time
you have to react is measured in seconds. Simply put, the police cannot be there in time to protect you. Now a shotgun on the other hand is
virtually guaranteed to solve a problem so long as the user use's the tool properly.
I really don't see any alternative. The sad truth is that there are evil people out there in the world who will hurt others with no hesitation, and
when they decide you have something they want then most of the time it's going to take something with the potential to kill the assailant in order
for the target to get out of the situation alive. Ban guns and you essentially make it illegal to defend yourself. Gun bans equate to the government
giving criminals the green light to do as they please.

I think that's the reason for the spike in sales as well.
Millions of people don't trust the obama administration, or the feds in general. An armed population isn't as easily enslaved.
Millions of people don't think that law enforcement can keep up with criminals. We need self protection.

First off I have plenty of guns and I am no red neck. I work in a highly specialized field providing navigation and asbuilt imformation in the gulf of
mexico. You can't take the average dumb ass on the beach and expect Him to do my job. So I don't take to kindly with being called a red neck because
its painting people with a broad brush. As a matter of fact most conservatives that You call red necks are the business owners, lawyers, doctors, &
any other profesional thats the foundation of this country. I think You been watching to much brain washed TV and You seem to be quite comfortable
with spitting out the mindless dribble. Another point Automatic weapons are illegal in this country so You please tell Me how they end up in mexico.
The fact is the mexican drug cartels get their weapons from arms smugglers and if those smugglers happen to be from the US is a moot point. So don't
blame law abiding citizens such as me for the illegal arms trade because We don't even have access to the weapons they are using in mexico.

Automatic weapons aren't entirely illegal, but they are well restricted. There's a lot of legal hoops that you have to jump through, a lot of
registration that needs to be done, and some pretty steep taxes that have to be paid. But it is possible to legally own an automatic firearm. With
that being said the total amount of legally owned automatic firearms ever used in a crime in the US totals two. Only two crimes, out of all the
legally owned automatic firearms in the US. The rest of them were not legally owned.
Now as to the reason behind this spike, I do happen to think it's related to the mistrust of the Obama administration. However to be more specific I
think that the fact that he's a supporter of gun control is scaring people into purchasing firearms while they still can before more gun control
makes legal purchase any more difficult than it already is.

Have you seen the medical records of everyone who's purchased a gun? Why do you assume they are crazy? Here's the thing with that... anyone who is
known to be crazy or has a criminal record is unable to purchase a firearm. So chances are good that the vast, vast majority of those gun purchases
were by perfectly sane, law abiding people.
It kinda scares me even though i don't even live in america - oh well maybe the ensuing chaos will teach more nations to ban guns and the world can

If you don't live in America, but you're still scared of what happens here... I suggest you quit being such a sissy. At any rate, I fail to see what
chaos will ensue. More criminals will be afraid of their victims now... I think that will prevent chaos, not cause it.

Interesting. You've actually managed to prove a point that you yourself have missed entirely. Guns are banned in Mexico, now only criminals have
them, and as a result the criminals are waging a war against the government. Who could ever have predicted that would be the result? Oh, yes, that's
right. The "crazy people with guns" have been saying it all along.
Oh, and here's a little factoid, genius: The claim that the Mexican criminals are getting their guns from the U.S. has been proven to be largely a
lie.

For a conspiracy forum, I'm amazined nobody has pointed out the obvious: based entirely on rumor, someone has been making big $$$ out of guns and
ammo.
Who exactly is profiting from this, and where do the rumors come from?
..or is someone trying to set up a conflict between the new adminsitration and one segment of the population? Great way of destablising the US, and
right when it's suffering from other shocks too. Maybe some pro-gun extremists will start taking shots at the President.

That's what most of these gun-fearing pansies are missing.
These are the LEGAL, LAWFUL Americans applying for these clearances.
The criminal elements don't go through the legal firearm purchasing process.
So the larger these numbers are, the better America is.
The last time I went to the gun store, I bought four rifles and two more handguns.
Rarely do people who go to all that trouble fail to purchase a firearm.
I'm in the wrong business. I should be manufacturing quality ammunition in the popular calibers for bulk purchase.

The only thing I see wrong with this gun rush is that supply isn't meeting demand. It's too expensive to feed my guns. Recently I found a store that
actually still keeps 9mm in stock. I'm not sharing.
For those who want to live in a country where guns are illegal, there's a perfectly good Mexico just south of the border. Or, if you prefer to stay
in America and enjoy living where guns are heavily restricted, you can try your luck in Detroit. :-)
