this is America, the NEW America. The best and most prosperous country in the world. Those events are long over as we have learned from our mistakes. I mean, you all sound like you have a problem with are government acting like they're the bad guys. All they want to do is promote peace and change. That's why the MAJORITY of America voted for Obama. He's the president for a reason right?

"we will add your cultural and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile"

OH, I'm laughing so hard it hurts!

And to the above poster. If a bat or some sort of martial arts does not suit your needs, USE A SWORD OR A CROSSBOW. Those are perfectly capable of defending your home and family.

What's to stop the Orwellian state you want us to see from coming after those NEXT week, after the guns are out of the way and we are assimilated, of course? Wait - they'd have to take all resistance methods for "resistance to be futile", right? Is that what you're trying to convince people of?

I gotta confess, I haven't quite figured out your joke COMPLETELY yet...

I got to this point on page three and had to post a little something that caught my eye.

This quote just struck me:

Just OBEY the law and everything will be fine.

Caps are mine, too difficult to bold them.

It made me think of this thread I started a while back - no, I am not looking for points here, it just so happens that this picture in it is fresh in my head.

AboveTop Secret

Obey. Awful word. SIT! HEEL! OBEY!

No. I refuse.

EDIT: Ok after scrolling through the last few pages I have concluded the OP is a troll, or worse. I knew there was a reason I had avoided this thread.

Actually, that /is/ a valid excuse, because, guess what!? The criminal breaking into your home may have a /gun/, because he/she doesn't /care/ about the fact that they're illegal or not. And I don't know if you've ever brought a bat to a gun fight, doorbell, but usually the gun wins out against a bit of wood/aluminium/flesh and bone.

Bottom line is: nobody's giving up their guns .___. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to take them from us, since, you know, we have the right to bear arms and whatnot.

Without trying to be flamebait, OP, we might as well bend over and give them some "pleasure" while at it...

The more laws you enforce in a person's life, the less you allow them to develop their common sense and sense of responsibility.

Idiots will always exist and the only real solution would be if we could outlaw idiocy (but that's called education combined with a hefty amount of socialising). So, whatever nanny laws you might introduce, they will make the law abiding population weaker and will give more powers to anybody operating outside/behind the law...

In my country, for example:
- With poverty and unemployment going higher...
- With a ton of refugee criminals living among the population (locals and normal immigrants), being armed to the teeth... AND
- With the police being good only at issuing tickets (we call them "tax collectors on uniform" here)...

...if you had the chance, wouldn't you buy yourself a gun???

(I bet the US isn't that far off from this description either)

Just my 2c

EDIT TO ADD: Very well said, karaxdeath. I totally agree

I can totally understand your angle here. BUT, it's too late for that.

I understand that a society with no guns at all would be a safer one, but you can't introduce that idea into a society that has always had guns.

Also, where are the guns going and who will take ownership? You can be sure they will be stockpiled for military and police use!

If you never had guns to start with, the people are powerful.
If you had guns to start with, the people are powerful.
If you take the guns away from the people, they will lose power and the people who take them will have ALL the power! And believe me, that will NOT sit well!!!

Think about the criminal element too, imagine the gangs with a weapon stash and a population that lacks an equal defense.

I agree. I do not own guns, but I have the right to have them, for any reason I see fit. I do not plan to let them fall into a child's hands and let them shoot someone. You have to be a responsible gun owner.

So, in your opinion, one is being a troublemaker by owning guns? People have the right to bear arms, which can get you in trouble if you use them for bad reasons, like murder, but it is not up to other citizens to dictate what others have the right to do, when it has been handed down to us by our countries' forefathers that we have the right to keep and bear arms. If you take away a right like that, eventually all our rights could be taken away because we'd be safer that way, or because we have become a nanny state like Britain, where we have to obey and do what we're told, because some do-gooder decides it's for our own good.

OP:

Your 1st amendment right to free speech is defended by our 2nd amendment right to bear arms.

I served to defend your rights but, you are a little coward, eutopian, fool who would sit back and let my rights be taken away.

I've been to dark places in this world. Places where evil doesn't "Lurk", it walks openly.

I've been shot at and stabbed, the blade missed my femoral artery by a 1/2 inch. I wasn't carrying a firearm at the time and mercilessly beat the attacker with the only weapons I had, my belt, elbows and boots. I left him to his fate in an alley. Maybe he died maybe he didn't.

If I had a firearm at the time, I would not have almost died. Maybe I would have shot him dead. Maybe he died anyway. My choice would have been to shoot his knee caps, hard to go around robbing people with no kneecaps.

Would you have survived in the same situation?

This is a harsh world. Maybe you have lived your whole life in safety. Others have not. Step out of your safe little world and see the rest for what it really is. Not what you want it to be.

The 2nd amendment is a right and it is for self defense. It is no more up for debate than the 1st Amendment.

For all the Non U.S. people: I like most foreigners. I like talking with them and hearing their thoughts about us and their view of the world. But, this is not your country and not your choice. We won our soverignty in 1776. You have no vote on our rights.

Yeah, I realize this was a troll thread. I don't live in fear of my government. A sense of duty above fear is something everyone should be so lucky to experiance. Even if they die feeling it.

Me an Extremist? Who would have guessed the Marine Corps would have turned me into one of those?

Just a question, my good marine. Was it me you were referring to as a coward who would let your guns be taken away, or were you responding to someone else's comment?

The big deal, is WHY IS ALL OF THIS HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME??? During my childhood in the 80's, all was okay, (to me...) I played arcade games in the corner stores, had an Atari, etc...

The truth has set me free, but certainly has pissed me off... - And I must say: Surely, guns are not a good thing, they kill... but why are they coming out and taking them away after making a nation partially deppendant on their guns? - Because when the people don't have arms, disharmony may occur unless people awaken to the enery of love & awe, - EXACTLY waht they want for martial law.

- Many cases have shown that having a gun protects and reduces crime, in fact. - I don't have onle, never will, but just want to make these points.

What is with people trying to blame inanimate objects like drugs and guns for problems. No gun is responsible for any shooting ever, yep that's right you heard me. Let me explain something to you someone pulled the trigger the gun is not responsible, the person using the gun is. So if you want to be safe you don't need to get rid of all the guns in the world you need to get rid of all the violent people in the world, good luck with that by the way. Until that happens I will be keeping my gun to protect myself from said violent people, thank you very much.

Kids die falling off bicycles as well.
Or car crashes.
Or by being left in the car.

We hear about the one in a million child shooting themselves..

Maybe instead of the Gov taking our guns "For the Children" .. we shouldn't put a stigma "guns are bad". When I was young my dad bought me a gun.. taught me how to load it, shoot it, clean it, store it, all about safety, never point at anyone, never keep it loaded, wear protective glasses......

Never had the urge to go looking for a gun. Never found one by accident. Never shot my self. Why? I knew where the guns where. I could use it as long as my parents knew what I was doing and where I was and often was watching. And I didn't shoot myself because I knew how to use it.

So if we taught young kids to use guns.. my bet is we would see fewer 10yr olds staring down the barrel and pulling the trigger.

Or we could let the Gov put us in padded cells..... For our own good.. no one gets hurt this way.

More people die in car accidents than by guns. Im not sure what the umbers are, but I have read them before.
Please dont ask for a source!
If you are afraid of guns, dont own one. My husband has quite a few, and Im not very scared of them.

Ya, I'll be GLAD to turn in my guns. What's the big deal??? I'll turn mine in one part at a time, starting with a supersonic bullet!!!!

I think I'll keep my guns, but thanks. If the poop hits the fan, at least I'll have some protection against looters and robbers. Hell, they'll help me keep food on the table. Yes, I'll keep my guns.

take our guns, freedom of speech, due process, etc. why not? they might as well we don't need any of these rights. They know what is best for us. We are incapable to think for ourselves anyway right?Give something up and you will never get it back. You go ahead and give them your guns. When you get robbed tell them that the government would not approve of their behavior. When I get robbed someone may not expect such a diplomatic response.

have fun letting someone take the sole means to your defense... Police are not preventative measure. Let me pose a question, If an armed felon enters your home what are your options. my opinion is, You use your "armed" force meaning you present the greatest possible threat to an attacker. However with gun bans as they are you're armed force is greatly limited while an attacker has a huge advantage in the fact that laws do not apply to outlaws

Don't you see? Guns have caused nothing but trouble throughout the decades. Can't we all just get along? Besides, there's too many kids dying by playing with their parents loaded gun. By banning guns from the citizens, their wouldn't be any accidental deaths by kids who had their whole lives ahead of them. And please, don't use that lame excuse "you need a gun to defend your family." That is the biggest bull I have ever heard. There's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned baseball bat to defend your family with or taking up some martial arts lessons.
