This is silly...Sykes is a paid entertainer and thats what she did. This event for years has served for this purpose, last year W. invited Steven Colbert of all people and he blasted W. and his staff with all sorts of nonsense jokes.

People got to lighten up around here.

So, if a comedian says he/she hopes Obama's lungs fail because he's a smoker is perfectly fair in your book? It's not a joke about wanting Obama dead, after all.

Kidney failure is not tantamount to death. Dialysis or transplant would still provide life, granted maybe not the same quality of life one would have wanted.

Sykes prefaced her comment with losses of homes, jobs, soldiers. The transplant of jobs elsewhere has not killed anyone (oh, wait, maybe a job loss has prompted a murder/suicide), but this transplant, too, has certainly changed the quality of life for many Americans. In fact, this jobs transplant has weakened this nation and certainly affected the nation's quality.

We read stories about and have urban legends about kidneys being cut without permission from bodies. The real horror for many Americans is how their jobs are being ripped from them without permission.

The last (and hopefully only!) time I noticed, Rush is not an elected official.

Well first of all Wanda Sykes = not funny. Her annoying voice bothers me more than nails on a chalkboard and then some.

In her defense, it was a joke. A very poor, not funny joke. But it was just a joke. Which means not to be taken seriously!!

Im not a fan of the Rush, but I wish no Ill will on the pudgy pill popping fool.

Im sure Obama, was just beign polite and fake laughing at her poor stand-up act. Thats all.

Wanda Sykes is a comic, Obama may not have much love for Rush, but if the joke is funny so what.

People in this country need to grow thicker skins.

I agree.. Im not much for Sykes. Though I think the joke was a little funny.

I also think that the title of this thread was taking the whole thing...waayyy out of context.

Would you have she did a "Why did the chicken cross the road" joke?

Or maybe, "A horse walks into a bar..."

The jokes she was telling, they fall under the category of "adult humor".

Apparently, the right doesn't have any adults.

A few things:

2.) This is no different than Rush Limbaugh wanting the country to fail, or making fun of Marty McFly for having a disease

See, you've bought into the hype from the demo-controlled MSM without finding out for yourself.

Limbaugh - love him or hate or just don't care (like me) - never said he wanted the country to fail. He said he wanted Obama to fail - as in how Carter failed. It's Obama's socialist policies that Limbaugh doesn't want to succeed.

Understand it now? That, of course, is quite different than Sykes portrayed, but in your political zeal, you just swallowed it whole.

Let's run with this now that it has happened. How about Obama apologizing to Limbaugh for laughing at the "joke"?

Hypocrisy test for you.

There are Obama jokes and cartoons all over the internet. Some could even be classified as adult. Now, do you think they are funny? Even if you don't, is it OK with you that these jokes are circulating?

Well?

Do you want to know what's even more hilarious than Wanda Sykes dissing Rush Limbaugh?

It's Republicans searching for something bad they can say about Obama, and coming up with nothing but misreported trivialities.

They remind me of deros outside the pub, looking for cigarette butts to make some rollies.

Exactly. If it was actually delivered in the form of a joke, then yes, that would be considered comedy and not a death threat.

Is it really that hard to differentiate between a joke, that is delivered during a comedy routine, and a serious threat on someone's life?

I didn't realize it was funny to "joke" about wishing someone would fall into bad health. Regardless who that person is.

Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't find that type of humor funny.

It's either that he laughed at something... gasp... FUNNY...

or that he laughed at something... double gasp... UN-FUNNY...

What it really comes down to is that he laughed, period.

It's just stupid political criticism and or racism poking it's head into anything that it can...

These idiots actually think people will think less of Obama because he laughed at a joke.

And it's true.

Sad, isn't it?

First of all, I am no prude, I think I have a great sense of humor, but I take issue with the president of the United States behaving like a comedian off sat night live. I feel that he should remain serious when he is representing the first family and our nation, it is simply inappropritate for him to joke about the previous pres, or the state of the nation, the right to bear arms, ect. He is the leader of this great nation, not a comedian

Laughing is sometimes a fail safe mechanism when you are trying to be mister nice guy. It buys you time so you can think of something to say... and it's sort of like what improvisation artists do sometimes when they are not very good at it.

...it's a lot better than being silent or saying "uuuuuhhhhhhhh".

I don't know, thats just one way to see it.

What's all this nonsense about people trying to differentiate between them wanting Obama to fail but not the nation?

Are you serious? Do you get the joke yet?

If you think there's a difference between Obama and the nation, then it's the same as saying there's a difference between Rush's kidney's and Rush himself.

Thats the nice thing about our country. Our President, while being the figure head of our nation, can not bring down our country if his policies fail.

He doesn't have that much power.

This is comedy.

Comedy is subjective.

wanda knew she was treading on thin ice. she even qualified her
statement by asking, "...Is that too much?"

And how should Obama have acted to be PC?
