Under Restructuring, GM To Build More Cars Overseas

www.washingtonpost.com

The U.S. government is pouring billions into General Motors in hopes of reviving the domestic economy, but when the automaker completes its restructuring plan, many of the company's new jobs will be filled by workers overseas. According to an outline the company has been sharing privately with Washington legislators, the number of cars that GM sells in the United States and builds in Mexico, China and South Korea will roughly double.

The U.S. government loaned GM $15.4 billion of tax payer money to try to revive the domestic economy and save American jobs. Instead of using the money to create jobs in the US they are taking the money and using it to expand overseas operations. While they are shutting down production here they are ramping up production in other countries.

How can this be acceptable? American tax payer money should not be used to create jobs in Mexico, South Korea and China.

Even after all this there is no guarantee that GM will not go bankrupt like Chrysler and the $15.4B loan will not be paid back. The fleecing of America continues.

this has been happening for along time. corporations don't care about america or it's people, only what they can sell to us. there is no loyalty in corporations to any country. they are private dictatorships, and they are only interested in how to seperate you from your money. i can't believe regular people are so gullible and ignorant.

Ford is going to build two of their new cars over seas, well not over seas but, in Brazil and one in Mexico. Ford already makes most of its engines in Mexico and Canada. Out tax money and wages go to another country that gets kick backs and pays their employees crap and we have to pay the same price for that vehicle if it was built here. They keep telling us they save money, and they do but NONE of it is a saving for the US citizen that pays for all the corporate tax hiding and the profit margins!

You know, we should bailout Toyota and Honda, at least they build their cars here in the US.

The way I see it, this is the beginning of the end for the US. The powers that be are essentially, liquidating the US economy and treasury, and send the money to China and Europe.

Chrysler is given for free to fiat, AIG sending BILLIONS of US tax payers dollars to oversees banks, GM using tax money to create jobs in Mexico.

Maybe the Mayans were ancient economic experts because at this rate, by 2012, there will be nothing left here.

We live in a global market so how can this be stopped? The trick is to export the wares the country makes. Sure the Chinese will make cars and sell them to America, it's up to the Americans to come up with a truly exportable product to sell to the new rich in China and India.

Satanic? Is your name Ahmadinejad? There are 300,000,000 people who live here, and we buy all the crap from the rest of the world to prop up your phony economies.

if we give em more money its obvious the government looks more highly on toilet paper then the american citizens

and if we are dumb enough to give them more money, well we are no better then toilet paper, definitely not smarter

but at the least if we give them any money we should be demanding they keep the business here

the main reason we are willing to keep gm up is because we cant afford to lose the jobs supposedly

but if the jobs are leaving anyways, what the hell? why bother?? let em fail, the jobs are going to be gone anyways

let em fail and allow new entrepreneurs who have been held down by gm and other similar giant companies to succeed and take their place

but bottom line ever since these bailouts started

all ive been saying is let em fail

screw em we dont need em

the day america allowed companies to become this big was the day we screwed ourselves

the only way to fix things now is to let the idiots fail

they failed due to their own faults, not the american economy or any other reasons other then their own screw ups

we should let them fail and allow other car companies to be able to develop

yes we would take a big hit in the beginning as we restructure but then and only then would we be able to start making things better

we have new car companies out there

we have companies that want to grow

we have companies willing to use the new technology available

look at tesla motor corps

they already have truly efficient electric cars out there

are they big enough to fill gms shoes now? no but they can be within time

and what is gm offering us if they succeed??

MAYBE a couple crappy electric pretend hybrid wannabe pieces of crap

maybe start to put out hydrogen cars and pumps at the stations in 5-10 years

MAYBE

thats bull, let gm fail

use the bailout money to get the hydrogen in place faster

use the bailout money as incentive for people to start buying electric cars like made at tesla not these B.S. pretend hybrids

use the bailout money for research and development to find a truly better alternative to oil run cars

use the the bailout money to work on creating fuel from algae and the like

change the b s laws about how we use corn for ethanol

corn is officially one of the least efficient things to use to produce it

lets start being realistic and use hemp or algae or any number of other things that have more upsides then downsides that we are currently using now

best yet, lets just all start using our heads and the minute politicians propose the crap they do, we get the hook and pull em right off stage and implement someone into power who will actually look after the best interests of the people they represent

...Hasn't the gasoline internal combustion engine had its day...?

...Don't the USA and other developed nations have a plan in place for

fuel cell automobiles...?

...Won't it be the "developing nations" that will be scrambling for petro

resources in the future...?

...Who is actually in control of the majority of the petro resources today...?

We evidently have an good exportable product....Our freeking jobs seem to be exported and those products we made where completely exportable but profit margins that have nothing to do with production costs are being used to prop up corporate rather than the tax base that's being given away along with our exported jobs. Just who is going to pay for all these new cheap products if half the population is unemployed?

My understanding is one of the automakers is planing to build carbon fiber car bodies.

This companies lawyers told them not to build them in the US due to environmental rules and the cost of malicious lawsuits that will be brought by the environmentalist even if the automaker does nothing wrong and does not pollute.

There is also the not in my backyard group that would block any new factories from being built for years.

BOYCOTT them. Force them out of business!!!

Buy a Toyota, a Honda, or from any other company building factories in America while "American" companies go to Mexico.
