Forgive me, from the posts on here it would seem that anytime a taser is used those big mean cops are flexing their muscles.

I don't think we use them enough. Thats why I am still a little confused to the way you guys think.

It's true. Kiwis and Aussies have flung sheep jokes across the ditch at each other since the beginning of time, although we kiwis also throw prison colony jokes as well.

3:30am NZT explosions have been heard from the house he is holed up in.

Nothing wrong with good old sheep shagging jokes just a private ANZAC thing people....

As a nation of hunters etc we do have pretty good gun control laws. But we still get mass killings example Raymond Ratima killed 7 family members with a baseball bat and knife no guns needed.

As the police commander for Hawkes Bay said on average search warrants a served like this about 300 times a week.

NZ has no need for any MBT's as we are a light ready reaction force.

"Senior Constable Len Snee, 53, was gunned down and police have been unable to retrieve his body , which lies next to his police car, for over 24-hours because it is the line of fire from the house.

A police dog was also shot dead, with two other officers seriously wounded and in hospital. "

That's what you get for being a cop in todays political/social climate. Good riddince, even better that he had to lay out in the sun to rot. The same fate should be delt to all who are "Just following orders." "Just doing their job.", and all of you calling for the tank to blow the guy off of the map. You all see a media hyped "crazed lunitic gunman in a drug house". I see a man who wants to do what he sees fit with his own body and a tyrannical government trying to force compliance. I see a citizen with more backbone than you could muster...a freedom fighter of sorts.

Read through the thread and you'll get more of a clue of what happened. The earlier details were quite off. For instance, NZ doesn't have any tanks & the dog didn't die, it was fine.

I'm glad the dog didn't die. I love dogs. But I still stand behind my previous statments. Whether or not they have a tank there are still idiots out there calling for this guy to be blown off the map simply because he has enough backbone to resist a precieved threat to his way of life. I break many laws on a regular basis. That doesn't make me unethical, nor unstable. Given that, do I not have the right to self defence or self preservation no matter how big the threat I face?

Maybe he didn't want to live in a world where the powers that be decide what you smoke or ingest so he would rather be dead than to live as a slave under the jackboots of the king's law.

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often, though it will probably in the future.

i agree completely

if the government didn't act like Nazis perhaps they wouldn't get gunned down like a bunch of Nazis

just stating the facts

edit to add

these guys are horrible nazi's though and i would like to offer a tip

To be a good Nazi oppressor and bust down civilians doors over a plant, than i highly suggest packing heat.

Just a friendly tip
Take a gun ?

Confirmed on breaking news on radio now -GUNMAN IS DEAD.

Found in his bedroom around midday. Too early to tell how he died. More news to come! Just thought I'd write a quick post to give an update since I'm on ATS right now while the news came over the radio.

Yep here is a copy of the article.

Napier gunman dead, siege over

The man at the centre of the Napier siege has been found dead inside a bedroom of his Chaucer Road property.

Police located his body in the master bedroom, one of several rooms they had been unable to view or have access to until around midday today.

Police are unable to say how the man died.

Superintendent Sam Hoyle, Eastern District Commander, said the house is still considered dangerous and has to be cleared by specialist staff. This could take some time.

No further details are available at this stage.

Cordons remain in place but they will be reviewed during the afternoon.

A media conference will be held at the Eastern Police District HQ, corner of Vautier and Dalton Streets at 2pm today.

In NZ we shear sheep while the Ockers share them....that's why they have velcro gloves!

(on topic) This was a sad affair all round, and perhaps most telling of all has been the comments made by people regarding retirbution, arming police etc....on one hand they decry the violence and on the other they recommend it...makes no sense to me, and personally I wouldn't be at all sad about a gun ban (don't even get me started on duck shooting...not many deaths this year they say, but tell that to the ducks....and the endangered birds these munters have killed).

Good to see it's all over.

Regarding the people who were saying all this over one plant, how do you know how much was there? For all we know he could have had quite a large stash.

And besides, if it was just on plant why did he react the way he did? You'd probably get a couple of thousand dollar fine and that's it. He chose to start shooting.

As for mushninja, I hope you never need the help of the police, because you'll probably shoot them where they stand or something....your comments are pretty despicable actually, Nazi's? Let them rot??

You're probably one of those people who attack ambulance officers too huh?

That's our stupid bloody policies for you. There have been numerous cop deaths just this year, it's just insane. If they carried guns, they wouldn't be getting shot so much.

Do you honestly think cops carrying guns will reduce gun shootings? I know if I was a cop I'd like the security, but I think it's unlikely that it will reduce cop shootings. If anything, I think it will increase the likelihood of getting shot. Serious criminals will arm themselves appropriately if they know any cop will be armed themselves. Also, a person with a gun is going to feel much more threatened when confronted by an armed police officer, making them less able to use rational thought, and more likely to make a bad decision (shooting at the officer).

I'm not saying that cops shouldn't be armed, I just don't think it would reduce cop shootings, but could in fact, have undesired consequences.

I'd also like to point out that I agree with milesp and LoneGunMan that legalization would be a logical solution to the needless expenses in cannabis operations, drug busts and court costs when there are much bigger fish to fry. ie the P epidemic and alchol related violence.

Maybe the prospect of getting thrown in a cage for having a plant set him off .

This sickens me. I'm a NZ'er, I know Napier well and lived about 500m away from Jan's house growing up.

Jan was a Territoral. He helped in disater relief and had not served in the full time army. Our army is not just trained to kill. We are trained to help our population. Our main job is disaster relief and logistics.

Do you know how many people the NZ army killed after the Vietnam War up until East Timor was created? One. One person over 25 years. I like our army.

NZ does not need more guns. We have just received Tazers.

muzzleflash, don't associate my country with anything nazi. From the number of times you said it, I'm guessing you're a bit obsessed. Leave the guns alone and go do something useful for once. This gun toting crap just shows how ignorant you are about this.

If I needed help, the police would be the last people I called. Now, if I needed someone to make criminals of the poor/infringe rights/bring undue violence to a situation I know just who to call......

Shoot E.M.S. workers? How did that come into the equation?
Hmmm, sounds like cop logic. What's that smell???

Quite a broad statement, I should take offense since I have family and friends who are police but your blanket statement reeks of so much ignorance and stupidity that It's not worth it.

Where did I say shoot them?

I said attack, which can mean several different things.

Anyway, this is going off topic.
