Who are Progressives?

The modern Progressive movement was born around the turn of the 19th century with adherents such as Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt; it is the movement to which liberal elite such as Hilary Clinton and President Obama proudly announce their allegiance. Who are they and what do they believe?

"Originally, progressive reformers sought to regulate irresponsible corporate monopoly, safeguarding consumers and labor from the excesses of the profit motive. Furthermore, they desired to correct the evils and inequities created by rapid and uncontrolled urbanization. Progressivism ..... asserted that the social order could and must be improved..... Some historians, like Richard Hofstadter and George Mowry, have argued that the progressive movement attempted to return America to an older, more simple, agrarian lifestyle. For a few progressives, this certainly was true. But for most, a humanitarian doctrine of social progress motivated the reforming spirit"

The progressive movement incorporated not only ‘green movement’ environmentalist, but proponents of the eugenics movement. Indeed, Adolf Hitler himself credited the progressive eugenics movement in the USA for being the basis for the Arian purification program in NAZI Germany.

“The second stage in the development of the eugenics movement extended from 1905 to 1930, when eugenics entered its period of greatest influence. More and more progressive reformers became convinced that a good proportion of the social ills in the United States lay in hereditary factors....

An educator, biologist, and leader of the American peace movement, Jordan's main contribution as a major architect of American eugenics was to bridge the gap between eugenics and other reform groups. Like other progressives, Jordan subscribed to the Populist-Progressive criticism of laissez-faire capitalism. Jordan had faith in progress and in a new generation. Yet, this optimistic environmentalism of Jordan's contradicted his Darwinian-hereditarian outlook of the world. Ironically, a similar ambivalence - - a "love-hate" attitude toward environmentalism - - ran through most progressive ideology.

For Jordan, the first president of Leland Stanford University, education permitted society's better members to outlive inferior peoples. Jordan believed the twentieth century had no place for the weak, the incompetent, and the uneducated. In addition, Jordan urged an end to indiscriminate and sentimental charity, a major factor he believed in the survival of the unfit. Jordan, like most progressives, viewed the urban setting as detrimental and destructive to human life. He held the general progressive belief in the social goodness of the small town or farm. The progressive's romantic attraction to the countryside can be partly explained by the alien character of the urban population. An increasing number of city dwellers belonged to the "undesirable foreign element.’"

Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood and the originator of the abortion movement had gained notoriety for vast sterilization programs for ‘unfit breeders’ that were utilized in mental institutions and prisons during the 1920’s and 1930’s in the United States. She was one of the “guiding lights” of the progressive movement and Hilary Clinton’s hero. She is also quoted by Himmler and Hitler as justification for the Nazi Jewish sterilization program.

The Progressive Movement is nothing more than social Darwinism that hides behind compassion for the weak and less advantaged that’s real goal is control and dependency of the poor on government handouts with the resulting freely obtainable and pushed abortion and sterilization of the ‘unfit breeders’. The ultimate goal being a large reduction in population due to ‘green laws’ reduction in living standards, degraded health care by way of socialized medicine, and killing off the restless masses in war and its resulting famine.

This will result in a ‘sustainable’ world population of around 500,000,000 with the ruling elite guiding every aspect of the ‘workers’ lives and it is the main objective of the liberal elite today.

It is the poison of the progressive movement that is the reason that neither the Republican nor Democrats of our two party system can be trusted; they are equally polluted and anti-constitutional. We must reject the continued false paradigm of our two party system as they both will slowly work us into a progressive hell.

Some points on Progressives:

" - How fascism, Nazism, Progressivism, and modern liberalism are all alike in principle, in that all believe that government should be allowed to do whatever it likes, so long as it is for "good reasons"

- How, before World War II and the Holocaust, fascism was considered a progressive social movement both in the U.S. and Europe -- but was redefined afterwards as "right wing"

- How the Nazis were ardent socialists (hence the term "National Socialism") who loathed the free market, believed in free health care, opposed inherited wealth, spent vast sums on public education, purged Christianity from public policy, and inserted the authority of the state into every nook and cranny of daily life

- How the Nazis declared war on smoking; supported abortion, euthanasia, and gun control; and maintained a strict racial quota system in their universities -- where campus speech codes were all the rage

- Adolph Hitler, Man of the Left: how his views and policies regarding capitalism, class warfare, environmentalism, gun control, euthanasia and even smoking are remarkably close to those of modern liberals

- How Woodrow Wilson and the other founding fathers of American liberalism were far crueler jingoists and warmongers than modern conservatives have ever been

- How Wilson's crackdown on civil liberties in the name of national security far exceeds anything even attempted by Joe McCarthy, much less George W. Bush

- How Mussolini and Hitler both thought -- quite rightly -- that they were doing things along the same lines as FDR

- How, in the 1930s, FDR's New Deal was praised for its similarity to Italian Fascism -- "the cleanest, neatest, most efficiently operating piece of social machinery," said an influential member of FDR's team

- How, just like modern liberals, Mussolini promised a "Third Way" that "went beyond tired categories of left and right" in order to "get things done"

- Mussolini's and Hitler's not-so-secret admirers: how many prominent progressives -- from W.E.B. Dubois in the U.S. to George Bernard Shaw England -- publicly praised German Nazism and Italian Fascism

- Liberal fascism and the cult of the state: how progressivism shared with fascism a conviction that, in a truly modern society, the state must take the place of religion

- How American Progressives, like Hitler's Nazis, were convinced that the state could, through planning and pressure, create a pure race, a society of new men

- How Nazis, fascists and American progressives -- including Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger -- all shared a belief in racial engineering through eugenics, and the alleged "need" for abortion and euthanasia it implied

- How it was largely Christian conservatives who stood against the progressive enthusiasm for racist eugenics."

Amazing how history repeats itself, is it not?

Interesting thing to note that might make some people here gasp (due to their ignorance in history) is that HERE in the U.S. in the years leading up to WW2 there was indeed a Nazi party here in the U.S. trying to gain momentum and in fact get involved with our political system and yes, become leaders with influence (senators, etc.)

I know because I've seen in several History channel documentaries in the past, the video footage of these huge Nazi rallies on American soil, and they had Nazi speakers voicing their thoughts on how the world should be, and asking Americans to support them. They of course, always made excuses for the accusations of their actions and their policies, but the fact remains, that yes, we indeed had Nazis in our own soil, the only difference being though, is that they were ambassadors, talkers pretty much.

The modern progressive movement, it seems, is obsessed with implementing experimental forms of administration, to the detriment of tried-and-true methods. This has fueled an untiring mission to completely dismantle the US government. This is under the guise of "democracy," which should be renamed to "a mockery;" it's not a rule by the majority, rather rule by the manipulative.

Great thread! Star and flag!

However, the Church did support eugenics.

You are correct my brother, but we are already in a progressive hell

And all this time, I thought a Progressive, was someone who in the interest of charity, would reach his hand into your pocket for the money, while leaving his wallet permanently at home.

I though a Progressive was one who touted equal opportunity for all, thus lowering the standard for all, thus negating the level of education for everyone.

And since I haven't given this much thought, I though a Progressive was the guy who comes over to stink up your bathroom while claiming to be saving the water table, and minimizing his impact on deforestation.

Interesting posts. My understanding on modern day progressives - it is about taxes and not much else. Regressive taxes are taxes that hurt poor people the most. Some argue that there should be no taxes on food...and some states choose to do just that. Progressive taxation puts a little more of the burden on the wealthy and seeks to re-institute things like modest luxury taxes and more taxes on activities or industries that have a negative impact on the environment. Most progressives (and liberals and Democrats for that matter) would be happy to see the tax cuts rolled back to Reagan era or preferably before the Reagan tax cuts for the rich.

Let the ATS rabid right wing "you're a traitor and you have destroyed my country" begin.

I'm not rich. Not by anyone's standards, not by a damned sight. But to tax someone else at a higher rate just seems highly discrimatory and blatantly unfair.

I saw where in the Old Testament, they had to pay a 10% tax, or tithe.

I figure if the Almighty thought a flat rate was good enough, and fair enough, then a flat rate should be good enough for the US Congress.

And as I understand human nature, there were poor people back then too, and they had to pony up with no exclusions, deferments, or credits.

I would be happy with a flat tax too...with no loopholes and no breaks for corporations and no offshore tax shelters. I'd be quite happy with that.

What you have to understand is that the Progressive movement IS the original conspiracy behind all of the current political parties; it is the pollution that has destroyed individualism and self reliance while furthering the unmentionable goals of the true money masters through the subservience of the vast majority of the ill informed. Compassionate conservatives and Progressive Moderates all have their roots in the original Progressive movement. THEY are the enemies of the Constitutional Movement and we must beware their reintroduction into our ranks, as they are certain death to our movement. Root them out wherever they appear, let them not taint all we struggle for.

The Term "Progressive" actually became a mainstream term if you will, after the "Liberals" of the Reagan Era began to feel that "Liberal" in of itself was being used all too often as a pejorative. So, to justify their beliefs, and in order to make themselves feel better, they dubbed themselves "Progressives".

Now, the major problem with the term "Progressive", is the very same problem which we witness with the phrase "Climate Change". These are both phrases which allow for no victor, nor righteous cause, which does not fit into their own ideology. In other words, anyone who is not "Progressive", is obviously what, Regressive, Restrictive, Out-Dated? This is the same manner in which "Climate Change" allows for its purporters to always be correct, as the Climate ALWAYS Changes, and it leaves opposers in a hard spot from which they cannot claim legitimacy.

It is thus quite ironic, is it not?

Ironic but also dangerous in that the term can be dismissed as an innocent form of liberalism when there in nothing innocent about how TPTB view their associations as ‘Progressives’.

posted on May, 8 2009 @ 10:40 AM
Hilary Clinton and other Progressives defense of Margaret Sanger belies the innocent connotation many have for the term. To be sure when they claim that they are 1920’s and 1930’s style progressives they are excepting all precepts of the movement at that time – to include the eugenics of Margaret Sanger.

This is dangerous because this movement has insinuated itself into both the Republican and Democratic parties. It is the rationale behind the whole ‘ruling class’ concept of the power brokers who feel themselves better equipped to make life and death decisions for the sheeple they rule. It is this movement that has led both parties into a statist rewriting of our constitution, and it is this movement we will soon confront in the 2 American Revolution.

Income tax is unconstitutional and unnecessary when the Government budgets with in their means. There is no reason for it to be as bloated and obese as it is.

Progressive is a "Happy Word" elitists use to justify their desire for total domination and dismissal of other people and other peoples thoughts.

Indeed. It's all about spin. Just like in South Park... when they start rounding up the dissenters they will go to "Happy Camps."

The demagoguery (sp?) we see today is eerily reminiscent of Il Duce's rise to power.

My paternal grandparents lived under him, I grew up listening to stories...

About how he was a great HOPE for Italia and her struggling economy, how CHANGE was coming, even to the countryside!

They were lucky, they got out before the war began... at least the publicly accepted war began...

Once again, history is the most effective foreshadowing...

I give thanks that there are threads and ideas that would remind us of our heritage, and indeed our inheritance of history.

Progressive ideas, when viewed objectively, are anything but.

"Happy Camps" are far better then what they really have planned for 'dissenters', compressed air needle guns applied as we are herded into 'Cattle Runs' more like it (Like the NWO thug said "Their not worth the price of a bullet"). You should read some of the 'Progressive New Age Movement' writings - WE are the cause of all the worlds ills because we will not conform & killing us is really for our own good.

Care to conform anybody?

If you look up Norman Mattoon Thomas, he was a Socialist candidate running for president in 1944.

He is quoted in this 1944 speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism.
But, under the name "liberalism", they will adopt every fragment of
the socialism program, until one day America will be a socialist nation,
without knowing how it happened".

He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate
for the socialist party. For the Democrat party has adopted our platform."

Since then the term 'Progressive' is another replacement for 'liberalism'.

The Republican party is no longer conservative in the base meaning, but rather is another party of large government ideologies and is of parasitic control and motivations.
